Isn't every clubs fans like that when a player moves? Wouldn't read too much into it.

Not always.

I'm sure our fans weren't like that when Marshall moved, or Fabio for that matter.

Le Fondre, Macheda and Dikgacoi on the other hand...................

His legs have probably gone for the Prem but I'm pretty sure he's technically good enough and mobile enough to do more than a job for us.

I don't know what the deal with Saadi is but I would have called him back over Lambert. Apparently Lambert is useless now.

Big difference between playing in the Premier League and playing in the Championship.

He will score goals at this level.

That's how I see it, Ned

First they moaned we were having 'non-scorer' Lafferty, then they decided we weren't going to sign anyone and the club sprung a bit of a pleasant surprise by signing the 'proven' striker we had been calling for!

An England international who has played at the highest levels and is also well known to Paul Trollope and Lennie Lawrence

With proper service from those around him, I feel he will score goals and our season might just be a little more interesting than we had originally thought!

Welcome to Cardiff City FC, Rickie Lambert :ayatollah: :notworthy:

I know he has played at the highest level Sven, but to be fair, he has done nothing since his Southampton days. If he was still likely to be a prolific goalscorer, he would'nt be given away to a club like Cardiff. His record his not good in recent years, averaging out at I think just 3 goals a season. I hope fans are not goint to get too carried away with this signing, because while I expect him to find the net from time to time, I am not sure if he is still good enough to get into double figures, even at this level.

Re: ' WBA FANS ON RICKIE LAMBERT '

Like most signings only time will tell if Lambert still has what it takes.

There are obviously 2 ways of looking at it depending on your outlook.

1.) It's a complete panic buy of a 34 1/2 year old who has scored 3 goals in his last 45 games and is on the way out.

2.) Great signing of an experienced striker who has scored goals at all levels.

Either way he deserves a chance, he could be briliant or he could be a Kevin Campbell, time will tell.

Re: ' WBA FANS ON RICKIE LAMBERT '

It needs to be remembered that Lambert had very limited opportunities at Liverpool and virtually no appearances at WBA. Therefore, its not really fair to talk about his lack of goals at these clubs and the opinion of WBA fans should be disregarded.

Also we're no comparing like for like. The championship is not the premiership and Liverpool are obviously one of the best clubs.

Lambert may be 34 but he's proven time and again that he knows how to find the net. I certainly prefer him over Lafferty and Fred/ Zohore who have not yet proved anything. Lambert is a terrific role model for their development.

Hopefully we can come up with a system that uses the pace of Declan and Kadeem, with the technical skill of Immers and experience of Lambert.

Given our financial situation, we should be delighted at this signing. To me its the best we could hope for in the circumstances.

Everything always seems to be so negative on here.

Give him decent service and he will finish. You don't lose that ability over night. Genuine decent singing maybe he can help zohore and Fred develop their games too

I admire players like Lambert and Crouch, who put in a huge amount of effort to make up for the elements of their game that are not so strong.Unfortunately, every player comes to the end of their career, and you can't always go by what they were capable of while at their peak. I liked players such as Best & Marsh, but remember them at end of their days gracing Craven Cottage. They certainly put bums on seats, and showed the odd glimpse of what had made them great players in the first place, but I always though they were type of gimmick signings who were there more for entertainment value rather than seriously improving the club's prospects. I hope Lambert can knock in a few, but I am not expecting him to fire us into the play offs by any stretch of the imagination.

When Hudson signed for us he was absolute shit every game and then all of a sudden was brilliant even becoming captain of the team. Get behind Lambert to score a few I have more faith in him than the others.

I tend to agree with this post above Chris.
He's 35 in a couple of months and will still be with us when he's 37! He's old and slow and hasn't done sod all for a few years now. I'm not sure Trollopes system wil suit him.
On the positive side, he's better than what we have ..... and I could be wrong! ;)

Totally agree with you sometime these signings are better. I was more excited when we signed Le fondre and look how that turned out. We've got a player with a past record of leading the line and bringing others into play. Happier with this than what was on offer last Saturday

Helgusson came for a pay day, I remember people saying that , when he joined us.
But that couldn't be further from the truth ,and I think Lambert will be the same .
There's a lot more about him than Kenwynne Jones and Macheda , we need someone who gives 100% and has that proven goalscorers instinct .We all wanted a proven goalscorer , and I think we've had the best out there in our price bracket .
IMHO I think he will do well for us , if he doesn't get injured , I think he will score 15 goals plus this season .

Totally agree with u sven the fact he was pushing for this to go through means alot too as i dont think many players would have done that from a prem team to a championship team, especially when only a yr ago he left liverpool, personally i think he will be fantastic for us and he might even teach fred that u have to kick the ball between the big white sticks not over them :laughing6:

I would have been pushing for it as well if I was Lambert. No chance of getting first team football in the PL, so one last crack at first team football with a Championship side providing one shows any interest in giving that last opportunity. Cardiff were that team, a no brainer really. Give it a bash for another year or so, or call it a day now.

I can remember a certain Bob Hatton who came to play for us in the Jeff Hemmerman/David Tong/Dave and Gary Bennett era. Bob looked like an old man with his 'baldy' comb-over and his Sancho Panza 'tache, and was about the 36 or 37 mark I think. Granted it was the old Div 3 at the time, but everyone's jeers turned to cheers, and the song 'Bob has got his hat-on, Shout hip hip hooray' used to ring round Old Ninners when he was banging them in for us.
