Some perspective - City Starting XI

Wed Aug 31, 2016 10:36 pm

Now that the loss of Fabio & David Marshall has sunk in, and everyone is hopefully more reasonable. Look at this potential starting 11

GK: Ben Amos

LCB: Matthew Connolly
CB: Sean Morrison
RCB: Ecuele Bruno Manga

LWB: Joe Bennett
RWB: Jazz Richards

LCM: Lex Immers
CM: Aron Gunnarson
RCM: Peter Whittingham

CF: Anthony Pilkington
ST: Rickie Lambert

I don't care what's happened in the past this season, the fact we've only scored 2 goals by CCFC players doesn't mean anything. Pilkington & Lex got a handful of goals between them last season. We have the same players to score... But you can't argue that this starting XI is playoff worthy, even when we've had a bad start. So many points to play for, let's see what happens...

We all have our different opinions and taking into account what I've seen so far this season and also the fact that injuries and suspensions will take their toll I think that the squad we have now is capable of no more than a mid table finish.

Can't see a playoff challenge as being realistic at all.

I hope you're right and I'm wrong though.

Change the two wing backs for Harris and John and we would pick up more points.

I'm also very realistic, I've seen us this season. Personally, our defence has been solid, Ben Wilson had nothing to worry about last week, until we got desperate and had pushed for that goal and brought the goal upon ourselves. Our midfield by name and playing style is very strong and varied. We have decent pace for our wing backs who from what I've seen aren't afraid to take people on and get a shot on goal themselves or get a cross in. Our strikers have let us down... I don't believe our strikers are poor, or not good enough for the championship. I just think it's a form thing, Where because we haven't scored, the pressure is getting higher and higher and has maybe played a part in that. But with Rickie Lambert and hopefully one of our other strikers to break the bad form soon, I can see us playoff contenders... But even if we're not, mid table is a dream to some people considering the amount of people on here earlier stressing that we will get relegated without a pacy striker. Hell, we don't NEED a pacy striker, we are getting perfectly good opportunities in the games.

I have never rated Gunnarsson and Whittingham playing together in midfield and never will, needs to be a better option

I somewhat agree, when they don't turn up (which is too often) we have no chance. But we also have Joe Ralls, OKeefe (When he's injury free) & an exciting Wales International who looks to be really promising, Emyr Huws. Other than strikers, our squad is packed with quality/potential. Hopefully Lambert can settle our strikers and take the pressure off...hopefully.

Totally agree. I think selling Marshall was the hammer blow to any faint play-off hopes we held. If we kept him and signed Lambert then I would have been disappointed but would have remained quietly optimistic. Unfortunately, not now. I'll keep supporting and hoping but the realistic side of me thinks we won't finish higher than 10th.
