Yesterday it had been reported that Lafferty was very likely to make a move to South Wales after the two parties had entered advanced talks. Norwich had been very keen to get rid of the Northern Ireland international after he failed to break into the first team and while he would be going to a Sky Bet Championship rival, they would have been happy to get him off the wage bill.
But that deal is now off as the 28-year-old forward, who was part of the Northern Ireland squad who got to the last sixteen of an international for the first time since the 1950s this summer at Euro 2016, could be set to move Palermo. He spent a year there back in the 2013/14 season and is well liked by the club and it seems like a return to the island Sicily is far more likely than him heading to the Cardiff City Stadium tonight. There is even a chance he may still be staying at Carrow Road as the Palermo deal seems to be the only one on the table right now.
But this isn’t a huge disappointment for Cardiff as they are now looking at other targets they could potentially sign, with most of their attention going towards Rickie Lambert. The former England international is out of favour at West Bromwich Albion just one year after signing for them and is very close to completing a move to Cardiff.

Kyle Lafferty to stay at Norwich after three clubs fail with late bids CARDIFF, UPDATED: AUGUST 31, 2016 8:38 PM VIEWS: 722, BY CLUBCALL Norwich forward Kyle Lafferty is set to be handed a Norfolk lifeline after Cardiff, Reading and Palermo all failed with late moves. The Royals were trying to thrash out a deadline day deal for the Northern Ireland international while Cardiff also tried, Press Association Sport understands. Palermo were also keen to bring the forward back to the club, after selling him to Norwich in 2014, but Norwich's struggles to sign a new striker means Lafferty is likely to stay at Carrow Road as they have no replacement. Lafferty had not been part of Norwich boss Alex Neil's long-term plans despite scoring in last week's 6-1 EFL Cup win over Coventry and coming on as a second-half substitute in Saturday's 3-0 Sky Bet Championship defeat at Birmingham. But with the Canaries only signing Nelson Oliveira from Benfica to boost their forward line, Lafferty is now needed at Carrow Road. He was loaned out to Birmingham last season and also turned down a move to Swiss side Sion in January with the Canaries having looked to offload him for over a year. The 28-year-old has scored three goals in 26 appearances for the Canaries after signing from Palermo two years ago. His lack of club action failed to harm his international form as Lafferty netted seven times to fire Northern Ireland to Euro 2016 but he failed to net at the tournament as Michael O'Neill's side went out in the second round. Norwich have been chasing new forwards all summer with Neil now plotting a promotion challenge from the Sky Bet Championship with Cameron Jerome, Lafferty and new man Oliveira. He lost out on Ross McCormack to Aston Villa while they were linked with a loan move for Watford's Jerome Sinclair and Middlesbrough's Jordan Rhodes. Norwich midfielders Tony Andreu and James Maddison have signed loan deals with Scottish sides Dundee United and Aberdeen respectively. Ex-Hamilton player Andreu has moved to United until the end of the season while Maddison, formerly of Coventry, has linked up with Aberdeen until January. Both players featured in City's 6-1 Checkatrade Trophy victory over Peterborough on Tuesday night, with Andreu netting a hat-trick.
