Zero ambition

Wed Aug 31, 2016 8:07 pm

Well at least for this season. It was only ever going to be a season of reducing the wage bill and not about competing. I honestly think we will be in a relaxation dog fight pains me to say it. Wow.. no swear words :ayatollah:

If rickie lambert signs its a whole different kettle of fish.

If we had rickie lambert playing for us in the 5 championship games this season we would currently be sitting 3rd in the table because we would have beat reading and birmingham giving us an extra 5 points. A goalscorer who can put the ball in the onion makes a massive difference and thats all this side is missing.

Cutting costs

think 10 years ago lambert would have scored a hat full of goals for us, forward to 2016, to old , to slow,

I am not going to go over the top if we sign Lambert. If he comes here, hopefully he will get a few goals. I think I will wait and see. He was never the fastest thing on two legs, and at 34 I doubt if he has got any quicker. As usual on here, some fans going completely over the top, as if one player is suddenly going to fire us to the top of the league. I suppose after the disappointments of recent times, you can understand people grasping at any bit of light at the end of the tunnel, but I think he is more likely to keep us out of the relegation dogfight rather than fire us to the top of the league.

Lambert is a shadow of the player he once was, but that maybe good enough for this league who knows?
To answer your question probably not but mid table or just below.

If rudy gestede can bang them in the championship rickie lambert will too. A 35 year old rickie lambert has more quality in his boots than gestede will ever have.

will have plenty of time to get in the box with the speed of our build up play

Re: Zero ambition

One 34 year old striker is'nt exactly what I had hoped for. We are not exactly going to scare the opposition with pace. Lets hope he can score enough goals to keep us in the top half or thereabouts of the table. Will wait and see as he is obviously not the player he was a few years ago. I still don't believe we would have been in serious relegation trouble with or without him.

Lets put this in perspective Ricky is 35 in February and has scored twice in 2 years

We can't rely on him game after game

We are no better than a bottom half team - This season seems to be consolidation - who knows what next season will be

Rubbish, how can you say that when we've not seen the likes of Huws(a couple of cameos) Bennett and Lambert play yet.

They will make the difference and we'll be a better team for those 3. I'd say we'll be a top 10 side this year and hopefully push on again next.

We don't know if Lambert is going to flourish for a season or two before retirement, let's back him to do just that. He's been with Pulis so fitness should not be an issue :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

With the window shut it's down to Trollope and Lennie to make best of what we have and mold a team out of things.

I still have my doubts but we are where we are and Trollope needs to find some flair and pace from somewhere within the current squad so I am hoping to see Harris play more of an attacking role and maybe some other players come int to provide some flair and pace.

We've had a rubbish start, granted, but I think when our new players and system bed in we'll be ok, we won't be anywhere near a relegation battle, bad start or not, we've got a very good squad when you look at what we have.

I agree and don't think we were ever going to be in the middle of the relegation battle this season. I would say we have a decent squad, but nowhere near as strong as some of the bigger sides in this league. I think we are good enough to hold our own at this level for another season at least, and hopefully as our finances become more stable we can push on sometime over the next couple of years.

Re: Zero ambition

i don't think we'll be in the bottom 8, but at the same time its difficult to see us scoring enough goals to do anything serious in this league. we lack wingers and quality strikers. pilkington is not a striker. we lost our best player in marshall, but brought in amos who may or may not prove to be roughly equal, it seems unlikely though.

the squad is smaller, with less proven quality, but crucially, an axe has been swung at the clubs costs. it is clear the club has to be self funding now.

Well see won't we. Helgurson done a good job at 34 here and he was never as prolific as Lambert
