BREAKING NEWS - CARDIFF CITY SIGN RICKIE LAMBERT

Cardiff City Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of former England international striker Rickie Lambert.

The forward has signed a two-year contract at Cardiff City Stadium, joining for an undisclosed fee from West Bromwich Albion, subject to international clearance.

Merseyside-born Lambert started his career at Blackpool before moving on to Macclesfield Town, Stockport County and Rochdale. With his knack for goal-scoring already apparent, Lambert then joined current City Head Coach, Paul Trollope, at Bristol Rovers – adding a further fifty-nine strikes to career tally.

A move to Southampton was to follow, with Lambert going on to enjoy some superb years on the South Coast. The forward scored a total of one hundred and seventeen goals for the Saints over five seasons at St Mary’s, helping to fire the club to successive promotions before establishing themselves as a Premier League outfit.

A number of personal honours came along the way, with Lambert earning the first of his eleven England caps in 2013 – scoring the winner in a 3-2 victory over Scotland less than three minutes into his début. Lambert also featured at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, following a dream move to boyhood side Liverpool. With the Reds he made thirty-six appearances, ahead of a £3 million switch to West Brom in 2015.

Speaking exclusively to Cardiff City Player HD following his deadline day move to South Wales, Cardiff City's new No.19 Rickie said: "I am very excited to be here at Cardiff City.

"The sooner I can get on the score-sheet and start helping my new Club, the better. I'm used to being relied on to score goals."

Just a case of getting lambert over the line for Cardiff. Fairly confident they will. No indications there'll be any other business.

COME ON CITY, NO ONE ELSE WANTS HIM, SO PERSUADE HIM

WBA striker Rickie Lambert is poised to join Cardiff City on loan.

Great News WBA have agreed to pay 70% of Lamberts wages, just down to Lambert to say yes to coming to Cardiff City :thumbright:

Cardiff City have today been cut to 5/6 from 25/1 to sign Rickie Lambert

WBA striker Rickie Lambert is poised to join Cardiff City on loan.

Lambert joined West Brom last summer from Liverpool but he struggled to establish himself at the Hawthorns.

The England international made just five starts and scored a solitary goal for the Baggies last season.

The 34 year old has been out of favour at West Brom with Tony Pulis preferring to play Salomon Rondon in a lone striker role.

Lambert has made one brief cameo appearance off the bench in the Premier League so far this season, with his only start coming in the EFL Cup defeat to Northampton Town.

Lambert is understood to have asked the club to move on this summer as he looks to get his career back on track.

A number of clubs have been monitoring Lambert's situation at West Brom and Cardiff have moved to lure the former Southampton man to the Welsh capital.

It's a loan, highly doubt we'll be paying anything over £10k a week for his wages, nothing wrong with this move as long as he comes with the right attitude. Also he's a goalscorer :ayatollah:

He's clearly better than what we've got but we also need some pace

Underwhelming for me ... not the pace and movement we need in my opinion.. at 34 his best years are long gone

I've mentioning Lambert for 2 months now
Could it be the club have seen sense at last
Age is no concern but he's got the experience to bring Zahore on
Let's hop it goes through

Arguably a better bet than Lafferty in terms of goalscoring and certainly got another good season in him at Championship level.

Is this really something that could happen or is it just wishful thinking?

Lafferty and Lambert would be very interesting !!

I think this would be a good signing. Although the second he doesn't sprint 30 yards after a nothing ball our fans will be on his back calling him useless

I'm trying not to get my hopes up because I fear negotiations will break down over money. But if it's true I'd be over the moon with this!

Thomas he's a class above any forward we have. I'm not sure what his fitness will be like?

he's the same as age as me, us 34 year olds are not past it hahaha. Well, he hasn't been injured as far as i'm aware, he's ready to play! :ayatollah: :bluebird:

This is a very ambitious signing from us. Yes, he's not the player he was maybe two or three years ago, but he's still a player with a strong pedigree and I'll take him over everything we've got right now. Simply put, he would not have missed the poachers chances that our other players have missed this year.

Last time he played in the Championship he was top scorer. A few years older now but still well good enough. Frazier alongside would really make my day.
