BREAKING NEWS - CARDIFF CITY SIGN RICKIE LAMBERT
Cardiff City Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of former England international striker Rickie Lambert.
The forward has signed a two-year contract at Cardiff City Stadium, joining for an undisclosed fee from West Bromwich Albion, subject to international clearance.
Merseyside-born Lambert started his career at Blackpool before moving on to Macclesfield Town, Stockport County and Rochdale. With his knack for goal-scoring already apparent, Lambert then joined current City Head Coach, Paul Trollope, at Bristol Rovers – adding a further fifty-nine strikes to career tally.
A move to Southampton was to follow, with Lambert going on to enjoy some superb years on the South Coast. The forward scored a total of one hundred and seventeen goals for the Saints over five seasons at St Mary’s, helping to fire the club to successive promotions before establishing themselves as a Premier League outfit.
A number of personal honours came along the way, with Lambert earning the first of his eleven England caps in 2013 – scoring the winner in a 3-2 victory over Scotland less than three minutes into his début. Lambert also featured at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, following a dream move to boyhood side Liverpool. With the Reds he made thirty-six appearances, ahead of a £3 million switch to West Brom in 2015.
Speaking exclusively to Cardiff City Player HD following his deadline day move to South Wales, Cardiff City's new No.19 Rickie said: "I am very excited to be here at Cardiff City.
"The sooner I can get on the score-sheet and start helping my new Club, the better. I'm used to being relied on to score goals."
Just a case of getting lambert over the line for Cardiff. Fairly confident they will. No indications there'll be any other business.
