" £15 MILLION FOR CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYER "

Tue Aug 30, 2016 2:03 pm

Jonathan Kodjia to Championship club Aston Villa for £15m from Championship club Bristol City Puts it into perspective just how bad the deal for Marshall to Hull is. Marshall could've been sold for 8/9m easily.

Better off questioning why Bristol selling their best players? If want ambition to go up you do not sell best players do you?

15m could be reinvested wisely but they've left it late to do so.. at least they sell their best player for higher than 2.5mill..

Irrelevant about price people whinge about us selling best players but if anyone else does its good business! And will they reinvest still doesn't show ambition selling one of best players question is why sell in 1st place don't need money obviously?

Not 15m, but you can't deny that 2.5m for Marshall up front is pathetic. In today's market we should have got at least double that, probably 8m max. A couple of years ago, when we just went down, probably could have got 10m.

No ultimately its not but 5m upfront is justified, but we are debating why Bristol who have ambitions to go up are selling one of their star players when obviously don't need to especially to another champ club?

15 mill for someone they paid something like 2 or 3 million - sounds great business by Wurzels.

Yes financially but what about ambition to go up our fans complain about our lack of it ! Surely their ambition doesn't include selling best players to a rival as well?

£15million answers it, not a measly £2.5 mill

We've sold to Championship rivals before have we not and for peanuts compared to £15mill.

So have our sales been good business?

Every player has a price, you can't turn down 15m, a Championship record fee. It's not like he is irreplaceable as well, 19 in a 46 game season is a good record, but they've signed good players anyway, that Abraham kid on loan from Chelsea has had a better start to the season than Kodjia. I don't know what they're financial situation is like, but you can't go pumping in loads of money and get nothing back because of FFP, they probably also look at this season and think that realistically it would be extremely though to get promoted with some of the big spenders (Newcastle, Villa, Norwich, Derby, and also quality teams like Brighton) and it would be best decision in long run. That 15m can be reinvested in the squad over the next couple of seasons, and if you spend wisely that will get you at least 2/3 quality players at this level.

No ultimately its not but 5m upfront is justified, but we are debating why Bristol who have ambitions to go up are selling one of their star players when obviously don't need to especially to another champ club?

Allan it's completely different. 15m is a huge some of money, they make a huge profit and can still strengthen their squad. It's good business stop being contentious.

selling him may be good financial sense even though don't need the money according the their fans as owner is rich and investing heavily in club! As people keep saying on here you need keep best players if have ambition to go up? Money should not come into it! Anyway that's my view contentious or not.

Allan, Do you think we have ambitions to go up this season?

That's a very good question Annis. And the answer? It doesn't look like it!!

The price was way low for Marshall, but more to the point, he was the one player who came out of the year in the top flight showing he can cope and thrive. Absolute madness to sell. No other way to put it.
