" CARDIFF CITY CAPTAIN COMPLETES TRANSFER "

Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that David Marshall’s transfer to Hull City has now been completed, subject to international clearance and for an undisclosed fee.

Having moved to South Wales from Norwich City in the summer of 2009, David went on to pull on the Cardiff City shirt over two hundred and seventy-five times.

The seven seasons that he spent between the posts at Cardiff City Stadium made him the Bluebirds’ second-longest serving current player, behind only Peter Whittingham. During that time, ‘Scotland’s number one’ impressed with his composure in the City goal and ability to pull off crucial stops whenever called upon.

His performances in the 2012/13 season were invaluable to the Bluebirds’ promotion to the Premier League, as he recorded a division-high of eighteen clean sheets. David’s subsequent showings in the top flight then led to widespread acclaim, with many considering him one of the League’s stand-out ‘keepers. Accordingly, he was named in the Sky Sports Premier League Team of the Season and lifted City’s Player of the Season award, before officially being named the Club’s captain for 2014/15.

Marshall made his first appearance for Scotland in 2004 and has gone on to earn a total of 24 caps for the Tartan Army to date – his consistent displays for the Bluebirds helping to establish him as his nation’s number one.

Cardiff City Executive Director & CEO Ken Choo added: “David has been a wonderful servant to our Football Club for over seven seasons and whilst we’re saddened to see him go, we felt it would be wrong to stand in the way of him moving back to the Premier League.

“There is a deep mutual respect between David and the Club and it was with this in mind that we gave David our blessing to make a decision. He will remain part of the Cardiff City family and will always be welcome home.

"It goes without saying that David leaves with our utmost thanks and sincerest best wishes for the future.”

Hmmm.

That statement suggested that the club didn't really want him to go but they agreed not to stand in his way.

Was it Marshall who wanted to go or was it the club who wanted him to leave?

Are the club telling the truth or is it yet more bullshit?

Best of luck to Marshall, deserves another crack at the Premier League.

Joined an inform Hull City team and I think the fee if the add ons for certain things come in we have a got decent fee, I don't think many teams in the past would have spent the figures that was been banded about.

First time Tan and Co have really annoyed me on this move, we have just sold our number one and number two keeper and replaced them with an inexperienced youngster who may turn out to be good but will still need time and a loan keeper in Ben Amos who we don't really know too much about and I really am a bit wary of loan keepers since Bywater.

I hope Marshall can get a testimonial, I think he deserves one.

Some of the saves he has made in his time here have been unhuman and if De Gea would have pulled some of them off they'd be talked about for a good few years.

His performance at Everton away when we lost 2-1 was unreal, we could have lost 7-0 that game if it weren't for him, saves v Everton home, Spurs home, Villa home.. the list will go on of some of the saves he made in games. He actually was the man in some games who would get us 3 points.

Would have loved it if he stayed and I appreciate hearing the fact he wanted to stay and liked living in Wales but he deserves to be at a higher level.

All the best Marshy. :ayatollah:

That save against Villa was one of the greatest reaction saves ive ever seen and how he wasn't injured in doing it is beyond me.

It's been said on here he wanted out because of clubs lack of ambition , rather than being forced to go?

More lies from the club? Come on, if a premier league team comes in with higher wages, under the current circumstances at CCFC you really believe for a second that Marshall wanted to stay??

Doesn't matter if it's for £1 or £1m that player would go if given chance? Especially in our current situation

Ah right, I didnt realise that, the bits I read on here suggested he was being sold against his will.

If he wanted to leave I have no issue with that, cant blame him.

Make of it what you want but David Marshall and his family were very happy in Cardiff and the decision to leave was ultimately taken by him (Marshall) only after the club itself made it clear they considered the Hull City bid was 'acceptable' in current circumstances

Would you stay in your job under such circumstances? Put simply, he wasn't 'looking' to go but once the position was made clear, he sat down and discussed it with the important people in his life before biting the bullet

A clever 'play with words' from the club and it won't stop the conjecture on here depending on certain agendas, of course. But I leave you to ponder on who actually stopped him from playing in the Reading game on Saturday and why? ;)

People only want you believe one thing about his sale!
simple fact is if he didn't want to go he could simply turn down hulls terms and that's that, but obviously because of situation with clubs lack of ambition he felt he should go?

Didn't someone say on here at the weekend Vinnie T blocked Marshall from playing against Reading ?

Yes they did but have you ever heard of player playing for a team when he's been sold to another ?

There's a huge gulf between wanting and (effectively) having to go, Allan and the simple fact is that Marshall did not ask to leave. A bid was made by Hull City and accepted before the club firmly threw the ball into Marshall's 18-yard box by making it clear they believed it might be best for all concerned...or put simply, the club wanted the money more than their long-serving internationally recognised captain and keeper! :(

Fabio didn't "ask" to leave either, but was quickly made aware that the club saw 'value' in the move and once the club made their position clear and a Premier League team came in for him, he also was not likely to say no, was he? :(

^^^^^THIS^^^^^

Sometimes, people on here just have to understand that the club are constantly on a (currently failing) charm offensive to at least try and keep the paying supporters on board. That means playing politics on occasion and their use of rhetoric on this one is designed to make it look like Marshall was "happy" or "asked" to go; neither of which is correct! :(

I thought Fabio had a release clause in his contract?

He did. My point was he didn't "ask" for a transfer and the club were happy to take the money at all costs. That was clear in pre-season :)

Yeah but if the player has a release clause it doesn't matter what the club wants :?

Also I think you're being a bit naive about players intentions. PLayers almost never ask for a move as that means they'll lose their loyalty bonus, they usually ask their agent to tout them around and keep quiet themselves.

Of course the board are going to release statement saying 'He didn't want to leave, he liked living here and wanted to continue at Cardiff City but we as board are only concerned about bringing money in for players to clear the wage bill'.

Some clueless posts on this.
