NOTTINGHAM FOREST SELL TEENAGER FOR £13MILLION
Nottingham Forest teenager Oliver Burke has signed a five-year contract with Bundesliga new boys Red Bull Leipzig.
Monday 28th August 2016
Oliver Burke had been linked with a number of top Premier League clubs as well as Bayern Munich.
The day after scoring for Forest in a 3-1 win over Leeds, Burke was unveiled by Leipzig with the fee reported to be in the region of £13 million.
"Oliver Burke is an outstanding talent, only 19 years old, with an awful lot of potential that has not been completed," sporting director Ralf Rangnick told his club's official website.
"He fits with the high pace and way of playing very well and will make his next sporting development step with us. This transfer is important, especially because several top clubs were interested."
A product of Forest's academy -- which he joined aged 12 -- Burke made his first-team debut in September 2014 before a loan spell with Bradford in 2015.
The 19-year-old won a place in Forest's first team last season and earned a first Scotland cap -- he was born in Kirkcaldy -- against Denmark in March.
Forest manager Philippe Montanier had said after Saturday's win over Leeds that he had had reassurances that Burke would stay from owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi, adding: "It is important that he stays at Forest and I am confident that will happen."
Burke posted on Twitter to express his gratitude to Forest and said: "Having understood the club's decision to accept an offer, I quickly came to the conclusion it was time to move on and experience a new challenge."
He said Leipzig, founded in 2009, had "world class" facilities and staff and added: "Red Bull Leipzig has a desire to be one of the top clubs in Europe and I am excited to be part of that and start the next chapter in my footballing career."
Al-Hasawi subsequently wrote on Twitter: "I would just like to remind everybody that when we sold [Jamaal] Lascelles and [Karl] Darlow, we brought [Michail] Anotonio [sic] and Assombalonga.
"I can assure all #NFFC supporters that this money will be used and reinvested back into the squad."

£12m for a 19-year old with promise sort of puts the 'fire sale' of established and highly rated fellow Scotland international David Marshall sale into perspective for me and it seems we are not alone in having an owner who makes promises they don't keep!
Many will say "too good an offer" but sometimes an ambitious club that Forest (like City) say they are, need to keep on to their best young players for a year or two more than they do
In Marshall's case, he was simply the best in the Championship at what he does and for the paltry fee (in real football terms) we got, it simply wasn't practical to let him go...particularly as he didn't ask to!

BURKE SURPRISED BY FOREST
29/08/16
Oliver Burke has revealed he was surprised to learn Nottingham Forest had agreed to sell him to RB Leipzig, but he has revealed he understands his boyhood club’s decision.
“When I found out Forest had agreed a deal to sell me it was a surprise,” the 19-year-old said in an emotional statement.
“But I understand the transfer fee received should help stabilise the club and allow Forest to sign two or three quality players who can help the team push for promotion.”

My whole point, Annis!
Proven club and international experience at a pittance vs tried but untested 'promise' at risky prices!

Unbelievable Chris when you look at it that way.

Even more so when we know he didn't want/ask for a move!

Two goalies flogged in a week and a player who would have been perfect for his system . Don't think Trollope wanted any of that. Every player has his price, but Marshall's is much higher than the fee we received......fire sale for certain. There's no comparison with Burke.

This boy will go on to be an outstanding talent. He's an outstanding talent now and reminds me of a right footed Gareth Bale with his powerful running style ghosting past players with his blistering pace.

This kid is a power house, he goes past people like you wouldn't believe.

This kid looks a good talent, but you can't really compare the two. If we had sold Marshall for 13 million that would have been good business, but we pretty much gave him away.
