Club's Lack of Ambition Confirmed.

Sat Aug 27, 2016 6:41 am

At last it seems as if the Club's total lack of any genuine ambition to be promoted has been revealed.

There have been many on this board who have felt that the recent employment of inexperienced low cost managers, free or cheap foreign imports (and a few average Welsh players - yippee!) has all been some sort of masterplan by Tan leading to a serious challenge for promotion

Well the events of the last couple of days has shown exactly where the clubs ambitions lie both on and off the pitch.

Redundancies amongst the staff and the sale of Marshall just confirm that there is absolutely no attempt being made to do anything other than stay in the division by the skin of the teeth if need be.

I fully understand the need for cost cutting and how we have to comply with FFP. However, the club made a massive deal last season about how we had in fact not breached the FFP rules and it was all a "misunderstanding".

Was that a load of bollocks? If so, why lie about it? If not, then surely after all the cuts and sales we should be well within the FFP rules this season?

Undoubtedly the club needs to be run more prudently and money has to be saved. No-one can argue with that. But what sort of message does Tan think that the current approach being taken sends to the fans? Does he think they will keep coming back week after week to watch a team of loanees and cheap buys?

Why should the fans give a f**k when it's clear that the owner doesn't?

I expect Dalman and Choo to be keeping their heads down for a while rather than have to try to justify their frankly ridiculous claims that the club is targetting a top 6 finish this season when everything that's happening now would tend to suggest otherwise.

I think the clubs lack of ambition was confirmed about 18 months ago. We stopped signing anyone, took the cheap option on managers and we have seen no improvement since. We had the fair play rules at the end of the last transfer window but it does not justify in selling some of your better players & not re investing in your squad. It's been clear for at least that period that we needed a proven goal scorer but to date we are no further forward.

I imagine you've been cackling to yourself and masterbating profusely after the events that have unfolded in the last 24 hours.

I've run out of tissues and hand lotion nubbsy!

To be absolutely honest I've found most of the events to be somewhat sad and very depressing (as you can probably tell!)

I honestly take no pleasure in what's going on - I hate to see the club being run in the way it is but I do genuinely understand what they are doing and why.

It's the bollocks they keep feeding us that really pisses me off and even understand why they are doing that but they must think that we cannot see that what they are saying and what they are doing are two different things.

I'll be there today nubbsy and at the next game and the next.

Believe me I take no pleasure in having a go all the time - if I could see something about the situation that was a positive I would be delighted to say so.

Unfortunately at the moment that's not the way things are in my opinion - others may think everything's rosy in the garden.
Wish I could feel the same way but I can't.

Just because some of us understand the need of the club to continue to cut costs that doesn't mean we think everything is rosy

In your OP you suggest that the club made a profit last season. The truth is CCFC made an 'accounting' profit because VT wrote off a huge part of the debt. In hard currency we were nowhere near making a profit due to a massive reduction in income and a continuing high wage bill.

The idea that there is millions of pounds available is completely and utterly wrong. Indeed if some of the high earners do-not go then most of the transfer fees raised during this window will have to be used to pay them.

At the moment the clubs ambition is to be run as a self sustaining business. I have sympathy with those who state that the club are being over optimistic in targeting the play-offs, but that kind of thing used to happen under Sam H and the Riddler.

That said I also have sympathy for the club as they must first get the finances right before any thought of spending can be considered.

I'm not sure where I suggested that the club made a profit last season? I said that the club denied that we were in breach of FFP rules and that it had been a "misunderstanding". There was talk of an appeal against the imposition of an embargo, but that turned out to be more bollocks.

You're right when you mention the club as a "business" which needs to be self sustaining but that should be recognised as it's only ambition at the moment, with the football ambition being nothing at all. It's no wonder supporters become disillusioned when they see waht's happening at the club.
