Reading Fan Chat – Cardiff v Reading

Thu Aug 25, 2016 12:20 pm

As always, friendly greetings from daib0, pleased to be in touch again. When I’m not the neutral ‘games-master’ guy I’m a Royals fan for my sins - and so I wondered if I could get a bit of chat going once again to report back to the guys and gals on my forum. These are always hugely appreciated by our folk on ‘Royals Rendezvous’.

Here goes, a few pointers right here underneath but any comments or pointers always welcome!:

A] How has close season gone? Who are the major ins-and-outs of the squad? I see the Beeb saying today that Paul Trollope is still hunting for new players ahead of the close of the transfer window … any positions or ‘personalities’ in particular?

B] Both Reading and Cardiff have started off a bit modestly, at least by glancing at the table right now. But I’ve always considered you one as of the biggest clubs in the championship - so what are your aims this season, using both your head and your heart?! In general do you see the Championship as stronger than usual this year, what with Newcastle, Villa, Brighton, Norwich, maybe dark horses Wigan etc. ?

C] Reading have virtually a complete new team this season which may or may not gel - no idea yet to be honest - and of course a new manager with a distinguished playing career. So any thoughts on Stam Jaap - do you think he might produce something really positive and interesting for the club, or will it end in tears?!

D] Looking ahead to this game – even if you’re leaving a prediction elsewhere, could you give me just a quick indication of how you see the play going? Could you mention generally a few of your biggest talents to inform the RR members? Of who should we specially beware?

As always, I promise that any snippets used will be credited by reference to your forum, and the individual member in question. Ah, and this forum will be our certain recommendation on the RR Match Presentation for fans to read on anything Cardiff!
Any questions for us in return, just get back and I’ll do my best lads, or ask on my forum if necessary …

Very short. Trollope involved with Wales (you'll probably get a few 'Iceland' chants!)In: Jazz Richards from Fulham & Emyr Huws from Wigan. Two lumbering forwards from ... ah, who cares and Lex Immers from Feyjenoord prob our best signing. Out: Fabio, Ben Turner, Scott Malone, Joe Lewis, Kenwynne Jones

B] Both Reading and Cardiff have started off a bit modestly, at least by glancing at the table right now. In general do you see the Championship as stronger than usual this year, what with Newcastle, Villa, Brighton, Norwich, maybe dark horses Wigan etc. ? Head: mid table obscurity, heart: hopefully pushing for top ten. I would say the Championship is def stronger. Just look at the spending power of Villa, Wolves, Newcastle, Derby to name a few.

Bit of a punt on another ex United player. It ended in tears for us with OGS (in fact we're still paying for his ridiculous overspending!) but hopefully he'll do well for you. Centre halves seem to make good managers!

D] Looking ahead to this game – even if you’re leaving a prediction elsewhere, could you give me just a quick indication of how you see the play going? Could you mention generally a few of your biggest talents to inform the RR members? Of who should we specially beware?
I see 2-1 to us or 2-2. Usual suspects from set plays - Whitts, Morrison. Watch out for Lex Immers - he gets about and can do a lot of damage. One thing you won't have to worry about is pace as we don't have any ... unless young Harris gets a game at wing back but somehow I don't think Trollope will be so bold. Enjoy the game & safe travel :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

[b]Pre Season was a mixed bag, first team wise won 3, drew 1 and lost 2, For 11 Against 6. Fabio is the major player to leave and we have not realy brought anyone of note in, very much a cost cutting exsersize at the minute, local lad Declan John has come back into the side and done well

B] Both Reading and Cardiff have started off a bit modestly, at least by glancing at the table right now. But I’ve always considered you one as of the biggest clubs in the championship - so what are your aims this season, using both your head and your heart?! As you say a mixed start, one win, one defeat and 2 draws for us, our win came courtesy of two own goals against a very very poor Blackburn Rovers. I would not consider us as one of the biggest Clubs in the Championship anymore, we have been overtaken by many, I think our standing as a club will be reflected in our League Position at the end of the season which I expect to be at the lower end of mid table. The Championship certainly does look strong on paper and I fancy Norwich will win it. Don't realy have any aims or expectations for the season other than to survive in all honesty, a Cup run would be nice maybe, I do believe we have the makings of a team that could challenge for a Play Off Place but we are 2-3 quality players short of it in my opinion, if we could somehow get in a top quality striker and an attacking midfielder to run at defences I would be a lot more confident

C] Reading have virtually a complete new team this season which may or may not gel - no idea yet to be honest - and of course a new manager with a distinguished playing career. Was surprised at the appointment as had not realy heard to much about what he was doing since he finished playing, from what I can gather he was coaching at Ajax so that is not a bad place to learn. It's always a risk I suppose but I would say its a positive that he hasn't just jumped straight in and has taken a few years before to learn as an assistant. It could go either way, its a brave appointment worth a risk IMO.

I think it will be a nip and tuck game, the formation we play is not attractive, we play wing backs and Declan John on the left has been making some good runs. The Icelandic Captain Gunnarsson is our midfield general and workhorse, Peter Whittinghan of course can always pull something special out of the bag. I'm going for a draw, 1-1.
