Bolton Wanderers’ promising opening to the season could be undermined by the loss of key midfielder Jay Spearing.
The former Liverpool man has been instrumental in the Trotters' impressive start to life in League One, scoring twice as Phil Parkinson’s men have notched up four straight victories to become the only side in the football league to hold a perfect record.
However, Sportsmail understands that enquiries for Spearing, 27, have been made by Championship trio Blackburn Rovers, Cardiff City and Brighton and Hove Albion and that he could well be on his way out of the Macron Stadium before the transfer window closes with competition over his signature heating up.
Bolton face losing star midfielder Jay Spearing after making a perfect start to League One
Ex-Liverpool midfielder is attracting Championship sides Brighton, Cardiff and Blackburn
Spearing is back in the Bolton side after spending the final two months of last season in limbo.
The Wallasey –born player was dropped by then manager Neil Lennon because the Trotters could not afford a £100,000 payment to Liverpool which would have been triggered by a 23rd league appearance.
Spearing, who had played 22 league matches, was forced to sit out the remainder of the campaign as cash-strapped Bolton slipped towards an inevitable relegation.
Despite his reinstatement to the side, Spearing is one of a number of players the club are looking at moving on whose salaries are not thought to be sustainable in League One.
