Aston Villa FC
Transfer news: We’re pleased to announce the signing of Ritchie De Laet on a three-year deal.

A few weeks ago it looked like they'd probably be a middle table side, maybe even a relegation battling one, but since then they've really gone on to strengthen, especially for this level. Not so much De Laet, but he's decent, add him to Chester, Jedinak, McCormack...

All these clubs splashing the cash! Wolves it is rumoured have 30m to spend this window? Really is going to be some very unhappy owners come may when their club don't get promoted? :old:

Wonder if Vinnie will let us know how he's feeling at the end of the season?

What's the point us splashing the cash to try and compete. We'll stay up comfortably and have a better platform for next year when others who failed to get up are desperately trying to offload.

Derby did exactly the same last summer, and look what happened there.

Spending too much money can have a bad effect, and I'd rather us be careful in the transfer market than risk getting into trouble with FFP - remember we had a transfer embargo in January.

Our platform will be no different at current rate (last year of Parachute Payments) and the three Desperados who have come down this year will simply be replaced by three even richer and more desperate ones (thanks to the new PL contract) next year! ;)

Sven problems will multiply for rich and poor teams! as only 3 go up more clubs will be in financial trouble if don't go up after 2 seasons? Then poor clubs will yo yo with div 1 clubs for promotion and relegation, can see a premier 2 league in years to come unless sky start reducing contract for premier league to stop devide. :old:

Premier League 2 has been bandied about for a while and I seem to recall Sam being desperate for us to be promoted from (now) League 1 to make sure we were part of it when/if it occurred

I think the Sky thing is starting to reach its peak and future contracts will have to be trimmed or re-arranged. One solution may well be the introduction of an effectively 'franchised' Premier League 2 with entry to it carrying certain tough finance-based criteria

I've said it before (and once asked Andy Gray the question) but I think the future of football in this country will become a franchise-style system with clubs being allowed entry on where they are located for crowd and commercial purposes rather than the current (to an extent) meritocracy we enjoy

One thing is for sure, I'll support Cardiff City FC through thick and thin but I won't hang around if they end up as a regional mix of clubs out simply to satisfy the increasingly over-influential powers that are called Sky Broadcasting! :ayatollah:

Yes can see it going bit like that with premier/sky cherry picking bigger teams to enter possible rangers/celtic!!! And leave clubs like us (maybe ) in limbo? :old:

Allan, at that point it there would simply be no point in competitive football as we knew it!

Your right but premier league already shown it's only interested in itself! After all its a separate league with its own agenda and only interested in money making, with EFL an inconvenient add on :old:
