A MARQUEE SIGNING?

Tue Aug 23, 2016 11:50 am

Its plain to see that this club needs a Striker, the only question is the level of investment we put into this player. I think this is what a few people have questioned on here more than anything.

For arguments sake hypothetically speaking, If somehow the club came up with a plan to keep us just about on track budget wise but bring in a marquee signing that showed a massive statement of intent, say in a similar mould to Craig Bellamy, what would be the affect of this on the club?

Would the negatives outweigh the positives?

Although Bellamy is unlikely to be beaten in terms of feel good factor, if we got hold of a terrifyingly good Striker for this division would it be a good idea?

Do you think if it could be done by putting us more at risk financially it would be worth the risk?

Do you think we simply cant afford it and are going to have to invest in a semi proven player?

What will be the effect if we do neither?

Are we going to struggle to attract a top quality or even semi proven forward even if we put the money on the table?

Do we still have too much dead wood to make this possible?

Do you believe the club does not have the ambition to invest heavily on the pitch, or is it simply doing the right thing to sustain the future of the club?

Do you think the club is preparing to land a bigish name before the end of the transfer window?

I wouldn't mind guessing the the so called football experts on the transfer committee think a marquee signing is hiring a big tent

i think or hope we are going to look at a good name in the loan market no fee so would be able to offer top wages first of all we must get rid of the the deadwood three

There won't be a marque signing.
Maybe another big top signing. We sign another clown every couple of months.

Based on the last 18 months it is more than likely to be yet another underwhelming signing or two. No ambition whatsoever.

Pull in the purse strings but loosen when we are desperate for a decent striker. The majority of our rivals have made quality signings this summer whereas we have certainly be buying in 'the pound shop and not Harrods' as previously mentioned by a manager.

We dont have money for a marquee signing. Our owners wouldnt know a marquee sogning if it bit them on the arse.
We will sign a nobody from somewhere vague.
The end.

Well the good news is 60% of fans seem to think we will get some reinforcements in some shape or form :ayatollah: but that leaves 40% who think we will go through the transfer window as we are. :?

I hope we can at least see someone come in even if they are a long shot otherwise it will very likely be a struggle! It most likely will be a tough long season anyway!

What happens now could determine if we do well this season, are mid table or are in a relegation dog fight or not.

It could leave us with the question, without more striking options can we compete this season?

I havent written off our current crop of players but can they do it alone?

So many silly threads on here of late. A marquee signing be fucked we won't even get a two man tent let alone a marquee. When are people going to think before they post. The club have said over and over we are cutting back it's there for all to see...wakey wakey :bluescarf:

so true mate we are a club being run into league 1

A marquee signing is simply a benchmark for opinion. If you want to grade a situation from 1-10 its no good omitting the 10 because you cant see it happening.

If you want to predict a gale you need to know what a hurricane feels like. I may think I see a shi@storm coming but im not going to bury my head in the sand and presume its on its way.

One decent loan signing could be enough to turn the tide and I for one have not written the possibility off yet! :ayatollah:

I agree with you. I thought Tan had said that money would be available if we played in red, and that the club would be debt free by the time he was ready to call it a day. I assume he is a man of his word, and as we are now back to blue I also assume that he will no longer be prepared to pump money into the club. If no money is going to be thrown around, and the club is to become debt free, it does'nt take much working out to be able to see how this will be achieved.

Agreed but all I see on here is players worth millions who we should sign or people crying because we ain't signed so and so. The same posters wanted tan out a while back and a debt free club yet how is that possible if he has to sell to get money coming in to get rid of him. Tan can not win or the club :laughing6:
