GET BEHIND FRED, PLEASE DONT WRITE HIM OFF!

Tue Aug 23, 2016 9:54 am

He just needs some time!

Tuesday 23rd August 2016

In 28 games Gounongbe scored 13 goals for Westerlo to keep them in the top flight by one point. He got into profesional football late which means its likely he hasnt reached his potential yet.

He has missed two sitters in 168 minutes of play which would have done his confidence no good but surely a goal could change all of that!

You must apreciate how much pressure he is under and how hard it must make it to deliver, especially being in a new Country and making a step up to a very demanding club.

Everyone seems to be writing him off but we need to get behind him because we could still have the Striker we need right under our noses.

Just look at his Benin team mate Rudy Gestede, he started out the same with us. I have a feeling Fred has a bit more passion but his ability is being disguised by the pressure that he is under at the moment. He could have just as much skill or perhaps even more!

Perhaps a goal will ease that pressure and allow him to get into a flow and start scoring some goals! :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Your right, he does need more time.

He definatly has the physical attributes, i just don't think he's the immediate answer. He needs to be bedded in over the season and used as backup/alternative to a main striker.

Said this before. Think he has potential but needs a run of games and proper support up front

Sadly, many fans are impatient but one of the plus sides of a mediocre season (at current rate, although I hope that will change for the better by Transfer Window closure) might be that we can give the Fred (and others) a chance to get up and running in a tough league to see whether they can cut it

At least that would give the attending supporters something positive to turn up for :ayatollah:

I think he probably isnt going to be pulling up any trees this season but if the fans get behind him and he gets some half decent service he could go on a run, you just never know with football. :bluebird:

Got to be worth a punt at that price! I might chuck a quid on it. :ayatollah:

he will need time to adjust to the pace of the game and also to start getting himself in the right positions as im sure the pace is far faster than in belgium, just look at gestede he went on to score for fun in this league, i would say fred just needs some support from the club tho not just the fans the club need to bring in someone to play along side him and take some the burden off him

He will come good, he is getting into some good positions, I'm predicting a 12 goal season for him.
