' KADEEM HARRIS AND DECLAN JOHN '

Just two of the Youngsters I was begging on this forum for Russell Slade last season and the season before to be given a chance, now already proving they are worthy first team players :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Why Kadeem Harris has played his way into contention for a starting spot as Cardiff City youngsters lead the way, with Declan John already proving a hit this season

Paul Trollope was full of praise for Harris and fellow wing-back Declan John and expects them both to be a big part of their plans

As Cardiff searched for the extra attacking edge to spark their season into life, inspiration came from some of the most unlikely sources.

First, of course, there was Blackburn's Shane Duffy, showing the Bluebirds how to finish with two exquisite finishes into his own net. Then there was Joe Ralls, not exactly prolific with his left foot, never mind his right. His spectacular goal hauled Cardiff back into the game but there is also little doubting the impact of a hitherto unheralded youngster.

Kadeem Harris spent last season either on loan at Barnsley or out of first team contention, before winning a crucial penalty on his return to action against Bolton Wanderers.

This season he has been thrust into an unlikely wing-back role in his two competitive appearances and has flourished on both.

There is understandably a touch of defensive naivety to be worked on; he has been booked for rash challenges on each occasion. However, the direct running and desire to stretch the game has given Cardiff an extra dimension. It was his run that drew the foul that almost saw Peter Whittingham put the Bluebirds out of sight with a brilliant free-kick on Saturday.

Head Coach Paul Trollope has confirmed that the 23-year-old has given him a big decision to make ahead of next week's home clash with Jaap Stam's Reading.

Trollope said: “Obviously Kadeem gave us an extra edge when he came on so credit to him, and the message is we want to be positive and bold and take those chances when we get up there [to the final third].

“He's had a good pre-season behind him, he's part of the group and of course [he could start]. We consider every player for every game, to get the right formula as to how we can win. Today, for example Bruno Manga was left as a substitute because we wanted the right formula we thought would cope with Fulham.”

Harris is not the only youngster farmed out loan last season to put himself right back in the thick of first team action. Declan John, sent to Chesterfield for first team football, has been a regular and drew praise from his boss for his attacking endeavours as Cardiff turned the game around in London.

He said: “We've worked really hard both on and off the pitch in terms of creating and going into the final third, we've got up there and probably not done the right things in terms of decisions and sometimes just in terms of the positivity. There was a little bit more of a cutting edge [in the second half]. Dec was especially positive down that side, he didn't quite find the cross but there was some good signs.

“Kadeem is in our thoughts, as is Matty Kennedy and Craig Noone. All of these players who have probably not started as many games as they'd like are all part of the squad and will certainly be in consideration.”

Spot on Annis. I've been a big supporter of Kadeem more so than Declan and feel he should been given a run of games so he would settle and hopefully improve and cement a place in the starting eleven.
With Declan this wing back role obviously suits him better but saying that Slade could have used him as a winger last season as opposed to constantly persevering with the mostly ineffectual Noone.
