Despite a first win of his reign, Cardiff boss Trollope is still having to win over critics over his team's attacking intent

Paul Trollope todays asks his Bluebirds to be bold and brave – to prove Cardiff City's new-look system is the same.

Despite a first win of his reign, Cardiff boss Trollope is still having to win over critics over his team's attacking intent.

With their goals in the 2-1 midweek win over Blackburn coming courtesy of Shane Duffy's bizarre against his own side, Cardiff head to Fulham without a scorer of their own with the team's new set-up taking its time to show its teeth.

It's led to very early doubts from some over the system that deploys three centre-backs and two wing backs.

But there were flashes of Cardiff finding their way against Blackburn in a game that can allow the side to start finding more confidence in what Trollope is asking of them.

And the former Fulham player is keen for it to be on display when they head to Craven Cottage, saying: “They are words we use often here, being brave, being bold - for me, that’s what football is about.

“The system is a brave system, it’s a bold system. Because it involves five at the back, some people think it’s not but in other ways it has to be a system where players play with confidence and are brave in and out of possession.

“And that’s what we ask. Things didn’t go our way in that first week but there was a determination and a calmness in the group - we know what we’re doing.

“We’re clear on our roles and what our values are as well, our work ethic and our honesty, and I think they showed that in the performance the other night.

“We had own goals go our way but goals change games. At Birmingham in the first half, if one of those chances goes in, that game is very different as well.

“You could see the confidence in the group [against Blackburn] and some of our attacking play started to flow then. Hopefully people could see how we’re trying to evolve.”

While all would prefer more points on the board, the change of demands of the group of players – and lack of striker to truly trouble defenders and bring midfielders more into attacking play – suggest patience could be required from Cardiff for a little while yet.

But Trollope believes his side remain on track for the work done on the training ground so far, adding: “I'm pleased with lot of processes we've worked on and that are starting to come out.

“Hopefully people can see how we're going about business, the shape of the team, the structure of the team and how we're trying to play, despite a frustrating first week.

“There were times, in the first-half against Birmingham and QPR, I thought the structure and the way we're trying to do things shone and there were things we did well without getting the results.

“Against Blackburn there were different frustrations over how we didn't put the game to bed and take the chances we've had.

“But, apart from the QPR game, we feel we've been positive creating chances. There were a few functional issues in the final third in that game we've looked closely at and there was an improvement going into Blackburn, but it's an evolving process where we are adding all the time.”

Tough to be bold and brave when playing under such negative and laborious tactics to be fair.

I'm a firm believer Trollope will come good but we need more endeavour in our approach to games and that starts with the tactics set by the manager.

Im not a negative guy but the way we have started this season has got me very fearful of whjat the future holds for us. cannot see us getting anything today which is very depressing. I think we are in deep doo doo :digging2:

Trolls has got my support.

He's a likeable and strait talking guy and the tactics are very different and brave.

It's tough with 0 financial backing.

Let's hope things start coming together soon!

In Fulham now, sun's shinning cant wait!! Blooobirds

Well for me I moaned as did every one under slade it was so boring to watch .
Pt has come in had to off load players again just like slade had to and its same as isn't it slade had his hands tied and pt has his tied behind his back as far as in and outs are concerned.
He has put a new system in place and it is a bold one 5 at the back bouncing in and then out of possession whilst trying to play in the wing backs its a brave move and for me I like it he ain't playing safe as a say 442 but when you bring in a new system it has to have time to work look at Coleman who plays that system for Wales it took ages to work but he stuck at it in the end that Wales team made us all proud.
Pt has a similar system for city and it is for me brave and bold so for me its work in progress and its going to take time .
If the plays take to it and we get the right balance of players in the team this could be really good for us .problem is you need everyone so organized and knowing each others roll on top of there own rolls its a big ask and letting Fabio go who would of been such a big player in this system leaves me a bit wobbly at the kness as does the overall ambitions of the club as a whole .
It has to be all in it together fans players manager chairman tea lady for it to work and I'm very worried and concerned as always of tans connection to what pt is trying to do .
Good luck to city and pt he's going to need it but at least he's giving it a good positive go.
