REPORTS: CELLINO READY TO WIELD AXE AGAIN

Reports: MONK ALREADY ON THE BRINK:

You would think a manager’s job is safe when he has only been in the role for two months; however, news that Garry Monk is fighting to save his job as manager of Leeds United, having only been appointed in June, comes as little surprise given the history of their club’s owner, Massimo Cellino.
Former Swansea City manager Monk was installed as the seventh manager of the fiery Italian’s reign at Elland Road and The Daily Mirror is now reporting that Cellino wants to sack the young manager after the 3-0 opening day defeat to Queens Park Rangers.
The late equaliser that saved the club from being eliminated from the EFL cup at the hands of Fleetwood Town bought the manager more time, while losing to Birmingham City and only rescuing a draw with Fulham in the dying minutes has further raised doubts on Monk’s future with Cellino said to be losing patience.
With only one point on the board to date and after bringing in ten new players, Monk is facing a race against time to get results immediately with Cellino seemingly unwilling to give the new look side time to gel.
Monk, however, as reported in the Yorkshire Evening Post claims that any talk of facing the sack is out of his hands. The 37-year-old feels his squad have shown signs of improvement in his first four games in charge and has hit out at the heavy work load his new squad are facing in such a short space of time.
“When the international break comes, it’s seven games in 20 days which is ridiculous to be honest with you.
“It is what it is, the same for every club, but the frustrating part is that you don’t get a lot of time to work on the grass, to correct things. It’s difficult for any team but especially for a new team with new ideas. It takes time and it takes work.”
“I understand it’s a relentless league and that it’s important to get results quickly to maintain confidence. It’s very much a case at the moment of the players learning everything in games. But I think so far you’ve seen an improvement in every game. Hopefully we can continue like that.”
With the games coming thick and fast, it is clear results need to improve as they head to Sheffield for tomorrow’s game with rivals Sheffield Wednesday, hoping to pick up their first three points of the season.
Monk added: “We need to get better and do it in the quickest time possible but I’m trying to find that balance where we can get results in the meantime whilst we develop the other side of it.”
Cellino is desperate to return the club to the Premier League following their relegation in 2004 but is also interested in selling up should he receive the right offer.
It seems he is willing to make unpopular decisions in the hope that this can be achieved, while the majority of Leeds United fans hope rumoured interest in a possible takeover by a Chinese consortium proves to be true and Cellino and the Elland Road club can finally part ways
