My view from the game - different to many others

Thu Aug 18, 2016 9:23 am

I personally thought we played some lovely football last night, in the first half, we dominated, the link up play between defence and midfield was good, nice to see City playing it out from the back, we lacked that killer edge in the final third but I'm sure that will come within time.

Declan seemed to want to push forward a little more and try to beat a man but he's still rusty and needs more confidence.

Ralls is off the boil, isn't doing enough to warrant a place in the starting 11.

I thought Pelts was fantastic bombing forward and getting stuck in, he was my man of the match.

Kadeem is a right little livewire, running the channels well and beating men to the ball.

Pilkington is abysmal, let himself down time n time again, should be nowhere near starting 11.

City looked sharper but we are not top 6 material, sooner fans realise this the better.

I agree with you apart from Pilks, he is being played out of position, he is not a striker, needs to be dropped back into midfield.
Ralls is struggling so maybe rest him for Huws on Saturday.

A good read, sometimes nice to have bullet point summaries  :ayatollah:

Pilks is not a striker however much he tries. You are not the first to aire concerns about Ralls' form. Definitely going to miss O'Keefe in midfield

Pilks abysmal????
He held the ball up when needed, beat players, won headers, dropped deep to pick the ball up when needed and run his socks off.
Granted, he's not a striker but the one thing missing from his game last night was a goal

Agreed with most of your posting,in my opinion saying we played some beautiful football at times is slightly over egging the pudding

I agree. Ralls is not at his best but will shine in time. As for Pilkington, he did well last night but I'm not sure what his best position is nowadays- a little slow as a wide player but not a natural striker either. His best position is probably just off the main striker, but is nowhere near as good as Immers in that role.

That's a good point, he doesn't nail down a certain position due to limitations in each. Lack of pace out wide, lack of clinical finishing/expertise up top

Will take a lot more than last night's display to see this team other than bottom half material.

Put it into perspective; Blackburn were poor. Their midfield was anonymous. City should have had a couple of goals themselves.

Pace, pace and more pace is the key.

John has pace to burn but second half he was not really utilised. if he was double marked then the midfield should have utilised the free space better.

Our midfielders are too pedestrian and nobody wants to move with the ball, always looking to square it or send it back to the centre backs.

Harris should start if the other wing backs are injured even though he cannot defend. Otherwise put him in midfield.

Collecting the ball and running with it in a straight line towards the opposition goal is non existent; hasn't been any of that since Mutch.

Movement by the forwards is non existent. Blame the distribution all you like but if forwards don't make space and run around then who can they pass to?

Fred stood like a statue for a brilliant cross by Harris. That is inexcusable not to have kept up with him and anticipated it.

Pilkington frustrates but he is not a centre forward, he is best out wide, collecting the ball, holding it up and looking for oncoming midfielders.

Yes we won, thank gawd but there is not a lot to really enthuse about. The spectre of Slade's football still looms over the CCS.

I see it the same but maybe put pilks cm instead of ralls as he runs at players and of course hwys is untried really

Agree with a lot, after awhile the space between DF, MF and FW got to big and then we were slow. Harris brought on much needed pace but City then changed to a flat 5 at the back to grind out the win.

Think its unfair to crit Pilks, hes not a striker but he did get into space to make chances.

I think Fred is deffo not the answer to goals, but he would work well with someone with him as he can hold the ball up decent.

Pity about Ralls, who hasn't adjusted to the new formation, or is maybe just struggling for form. Huws should have a chance, but don't think Trollope will do that. We desperately need a striker.

Yeah maybe I am being a bit critical of Pilks, he frustrates me as he doesn't appear to be the same guy who was banging them in for Norwich, he is a decent player and has the potential to be a top championship player, I just think he's isolated in the current position and needs a break to recapture form.

Huws don't know much about him, but hope he can help the midfield.

Nice to read a different view on here as I wasn't at the game last night.

Apologies to the grange-end 1927 guy as I guess this doesn't make me a proper fan like he is.

I hope Trollope will now rest Ralls for a while and throw in Huws or change it slightly as Slade would pick the same players regardless of form which used to annoy me.

This is how the Western Maill reporter saw Ralls last night.

while Joe Ralls and Immers both upped their games from an average outing at the weekend.

I was at the game last night, and agree with the OP, though he is a bit harsh on Pilkington. He did miss two very good chances, though. It could ave been 4-0 at one point.
