“They’ve started well, we’ve studied them and prepared for them, they’ve started well with good performances, good manager with a good philosophy.

“They’ve recruited well and it’s another tough championship test, like they all are in different ways, this provides another one, the next one, but we’re in confident mood.”

History

Fulham Football Club is a professional association football club based in Fulham, Greater London, England. Founded in 1879, they play in the Championship, having been relegated from the Premier League in 2013–14 under Felix Magath, after 13 consecutive seasons in the top-flight. They are the oldest-established football team from London to have played in the Premier League.

The club has spent 25 seasons in English football's top division, the majority of these in two spells during the 1960s and 2000s. The latter spell was associated with former chairman Mohamed Al-Fayed, after the club had climbed up from the fourth tier in the 1990s. Fulham have never won a major honour, although they have reached two major finals: in 1975, as a Second Division team, they contested the FA Cup Final for the only time in their history, losing 2–0 to West Ham United, and in 2010 they reached the final of the UEFA Europa League, which they contested with Atlético Madrid in Hamburg, losing 2–1 after extra time.

The club has produced many English greats, including Johnny Haynes, George Cohen, Bobby Robson, Rodney Marsh and Alan Mullery. They play at Craven Cottage, a ground on the banks of the River Thames in Fulham which has been their home since 1896. Fulham's training ground is located near Motspur Park, where the club's Academy is also situated.

History

Craven Cottage has a history that goes back to 1780 when a cottage was built in the woods and the surrounding fields were used for various sports. The site, however, later fell into disuse and the original cottage burned down in 1888.

Fulham had already played at various grounds when their eye fell on the site close to the river Thames. After cleaning up the overgrown field, they played their first match at the ground in 1896. Craven Cottage at that time consisted of nothing more than a basic wooden stand.

This changed in 1906 when a first proper stand was built. The stand, currently called Johnny Haynes Stand, was designed by Archibald Leitch and had a characteristic red-brick facade. The stand was accompanied by a pavilion, which is the present-day Cottage.

Craven Cottage was further expanded with terraces in the next decades and reached its record attendance in 1938 when a total of 49,335 spectators attended a game against Millwall. One decade later, Craven Cottage hosted a few games during the 1948 Olympic Games.

In the following years, the stadium got further improved, concluding with the construction of the Riverside Stand in 1972. Fulham played most of the 1980s and 1990s in the lower leagues and therefore few further changes were made to Craven Cottage.

When Fulham started climbing up the league in the late 1990s and achieved promotion to the Premier League in 2001, the stadium was therefore not able to meet Premier League requirements. The club consequently moved to Loftus Road for a year (after a first year of dispensation), and expected to return to a brand-new stadium.

However, due to opposition to the reconstruction plans and spiralling costs, the plans had to be abandoned and instead was chosen to refurbish Craven Cottage. Works were completed in the summer of 2004.

Craven Cottage remained one of the smallest grounds of the Premier League, and Fulham therefore kept considering either moving to a new stadium (possibly to be shared with another West-London club), or further redeveloping Craven Cottage.

The club in the end decided to stay at Craven Cottage, and have recently seen plans approved for the construction of a new Riverside Stand, which will raise capacity to 30,000 seats.

The Football League have now announced the Match Day officials that will take charge of the game against Fulham this Saturday.

Cardiff City travel to Fulham on Saturday August 20 for the game at Craven Cottage and the match carries a 3pm kick off.

Referee: Jeremy Simpson
Linesmen: Michael George and Tony Peart
Fourth Official: Marc Wilson

Match Day referee Simpson has officiated two games in 2016/17 with a return of ten yellow cards and zero red cards.

He took charge of 35 matches last season and in those games, across all competitions and football divisions, he handed out a total of 115 yellow cards and five red cards.

He was most card happy in the match between Bradford City and Port Vale on August 29 with a total of seven yellows being shown. He also showed seven yellows in the game between Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest on October 31 and seven again between Leeds and MK Dons on January 2. Five yellows and two reds appeared in February's game between Accrington and Carlisle.

Simpson is a former international assistant referee, who officiated in many Champions League matches and other international fixtures. He opted for a career with the whistle after refereeing the 2012 National League Play-Off Final between York City and Luton Town. He was then appointed to the EFL Referees List in 2012/13 and in his four years on the list has refereed over 100 matches.

Cardiff City injuries concern head coach Paul Trollope

By Michael Pearlman
BBC

Thursday 18th August 2016

Cardiff City boss Paul Trollope admits he has injuries mounting at right wing-back.

The Bluebirds, who have switched to a 3-5-2 system under the former Wales coach, now have two fitness doubts in the same position ahead of Saturday's trip to Fulham.

Jazz Richards missed the 2-1 win over Blackburn with a calf issue and Lee Peltier went off with an ankle injury.

"We will assess it in the next 24 hours," Trollope said.

"We were missing Jazz Richards, but thought Lee Peltier had a really good 60 minutes at right wing-back.

"Jazz has a calf problem, and he's taken a whack on his shin. We didn't want to take a risk on him.

"I decided to keep the shape with the wingbacks and Lee Peltier will be assessed in the next 24 hours.

"Has shown capabilities in two games now, he was doing well."

Youngster Kadeem Harris came off the bench to replace Peltier in the second half as Cardiff secured their first win of the season against the Championship's bottom side.

700 seems shockinly low. I thought Fulham was a popular trip especially considering it's summer holidays.
Is the 700 figure including what the supporters busses are bringing?

Jokanovic calls for focus on Cardiff

by Dan Edmunds

Fulham Site

Friday 19 August , 2016

Fulham head coach Slavisa Jokanovic says that there is real confidence around the camp after his side’s excellent start to the season – but has urged his team to concentrate fully on the task at hand: picking up three points against Cardiff City tomorrow afternoon.

The Whites were disappointed not to take all three points from the midweek meeting with Leeds United, but Jokanovic has told his players to put the thought of Chris Wood’s injury-time equaliser out of their minds and try to replicate the level of performance they turned in at Elland Road.

The feeling is good. We are ready for what is in front of us. There is no time for looking back at Leeds. It’s a moment to concentrate on the next match and be focused on fighting for the points that are on offer tomorrow.

It’s unfortunate that we didn’t win the last game. But at the same time if we can repeat the way in which we performed in the game we will win more games than we lose.

Jokanovic told his pre-match press conference that the Fulham squad have been informed of his expectations and that he wants his side to continue the fluid style of football that has characterised their good start and put their opponents under pressure.

My team knows what I expect in each game and we can be a dominating team. If we try and take our situation in our hands and try and dominate our opposition we can always be in the situation to win the game. I am happy with how they are working. They are working very hard and the last two weeks have been positive.

We are going to see tomorrow. In football the last performances are the past. It is only the present and tomorrow is a new exam for us and I expect we will be ready to show the fans more positive things.

The Serbian almost has a fully fit squad to choose from with only full-back Ryan Fredericks, who is still recovering from ankle surgery, unavailable. He is expecting a tough test from Cardiff, managed by former Fulham midfielder Paul Trollope, tomorrow afternoon.

Cardiff have three points less than what we have. In their last game they found a way how they wanted to play. This is the Championship and I don’t expect anything easy. We have to be prepared for what is in front of us. We need to be optimists, be positive and believe we can win the points.

Fulham boss Slaviša Jokanović

Fulham boss Slaviša Jokanović says his camp are still positive despite conceding an injury time equaliser at Leeds in midweek. That goal cost the Cottagers a 100% record in the league so far.
“The feeling is good,” Jokanović said. “We are ready for what is in front of us.
“There is no time for looking back at Leeds. It’s a moment to concentrate on the next match and be focused on fighting for the points that are on offer tomorrow.”
