Liverpool get €15mill bid rejected by Inter Milan
LIVERPOOL TARGET €15M GARY MEDEL MOVE
16/08/16
Liverpool are preparing a €15m move to sign Inter Milan holding midfielder Gary Medel, says Corriere della Sera.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp wants to strengthen his midfield options before the transfer window closes, with the experienced Chile international his number-one target.
However, the Italian sports daily also says the Serie A club will not allow Medel to join the Merseysiders if in-demand midfielder Marcelo Brozovic leaves San Siro this summer.

he's a tidy passer of the ball, but 'tenacious defensive midfielder' he is not. €15m is probably on the high end, even in this market, given his age.
in short, he wouldn't be the sort of player i would be expecting a team wanting to be in the champions league to sign.

How can you say he isn't a tenacious midfielder? What Gary Medel was you watching?
Gary Medel is the best footballer I have ever seen for us in my life time, apart from Aaron Ramsey. He would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool.

Agree with Swampy. He was all hype. He was out of shape, uncommited and a liability at times. He didn't get the nickname "el poodle" for nothing.

Agree him and Ramsey are the best I've ever seen in the last 30 years

Easily the best we've ever had. A class apart. Unfortunately lost interest when he realised he was carrying the rest of the team in our promotion year.

He didn't play in our promotion year. He was signed after promotion. He came with a big reputation and never lived up to it. Any mistake he made was blamed on someone else, and any bad performances blamed on those around him. Our fanbase made excuse after excuse for him because they desperately wanted him to be a cult hero which he never lived up to. In reality he was distinctly average or poor the vast majority of the time. The only notable performance was Fulham away. The rest of the time it was 3 yard backward passes, half hearted tackles and the goal threat of a gnat. Just thankful we didn't lose a lot of money on him. That is the reality of it.

Medel was played out of position whilst at Cardiff.
We should have played him in his natural position to get the best out of him
I liked Medel.

i watched a player who played with one eye on ensuring he didnt get injured so he would be going to the world cup. we were warned that he would be an aggressive midfielder who would play on the edge, a roy keane, who would be at risk of repeated sending offs. how wrong that turned out to be! of course, it was a fallacy based upon him kicking a chair after getting sent off in la liga!
he was a neat passer for us, but little more. if it were not for his heroic performances for chile at the world cup, we would have been lucky to recoup half our outlay, which says it all.

You do realise he tore his calf and played the second half of the season patched up for us in what must be the most disorganised, open team to ever be in the Premiership, don't you?

Awesome player some on here don't have a clue about football I do agree however that after January he realised we were doomed and he protected himself against getting injured before the World Cup also a class guy with a lot of time for the fans.
IMO along with Ramsey best footballer we've had in my lifetime.

for £5m it may have been a different story, but for £11m in 2013, vastly overpriced. as i stated, we recouped our money not because of his performances for us but heroics at the 2014 world cup.
what sort of character 'protects himself' against injury when he is a defensive midfielder for a club battling relegation paying him upwards of £40k a week? certainly not a 'class guy'. people like me in the stands would run through bricks if we got a chance to play for this club and to see our record signing playing at 80% was especially galling.

He was a ridiculous flop. Anyone attempting to say otherwise probably belong to the camp that desperately wanted to try and turn the man into a cult hero during his time here and did the side who actually wer fighting tooth and nail a great disservice by blaming them for his repeated awful performances. He was made to look like an utter chump at the liberty. As mentioned previously, we are lucky he performed so well for Chile or we would be starring down the barrel of a multi million loss.
