The players are not the problem.

I believe it's down to the 5-3-2 formation that Trollope insists/been told to use, It's a defensive formation which often results in us sitting too deep allowing opposing strikers to drop deep to shoot or combine with midfield players making runs from deep. This has a negative effect as it almost always forces our team back to track runners while limiting our own play.

Our team shape is causing an inability to get attacking players forward and is limiting our options in build up play, We end up so deep that our only option is to either knock it long to Gounogbe which just comes straight back because he is so isolated without any nearby support or just keep recycling possession via Whittingham and waiting for the channels to open up for Pilkington and Immers to exploit. This is the reason that we have such a good deal of possession during matches but we need our wing backs to do more to open up the space , drag the opposition midfield away to open up the channels. This isn't happening at the moment and unfortunately we don't have a Gareth Bale to drop deep looking for the ball and drive it 30-40 yards up field using his pace.

If Trollope continues to use this formation over the course of the season he needs to make some more signings, We need a striker with pace who can drop deep and drive the team forward and more intelligent attacking midfielders and I believe this was the reason that we bought Huws from Wigan. I feel we need better quality wing backs, John and Richards are a big part of the problem and I hope Trollope can sort this on the training field or it will be a long season.

Spot on. Definitely need better wing backs if this formation is to be effective. More pace and the ability to cross the ball would be a real bonus.

I've sort of left these subjects alone to new but I have to say that (as usual) many Cardiff City fans are jumping the gun a little. On the whole, the 5-3-2 formation has worked and for most of the games against Birmingham and QPR our team looked pretty solid and cohesive; putting together some good build-ups and moves

The issue? A complete lack of ability up front, which is making the rest of the team look a lot worse than they really are. If City had come away from either game to date with a tight 1-0 win, the same City fans would be praising Paul Trollope for his innovation! ;)

Early days yet, people. Give the side a chance to gel and give the manager a chance to get through the Transfer Window by shifting out a bit more of the deadwood and bringing in a striker or two I am pretty sure he knows we need right now! :ayatollah:

what a load of shit the problem is our midfielders dont want to get beyond the striker, not just that we should be playing this with 2 out and out strikers we are playing with one and that one has played 2 games at this level in his life, yes yesterday was disappointing but the formation has fuk all to do with it its all about the lack of threat in front of goal and i cant believe im saying this but as tan himself says we need to shoot more how can you expect to score without shooting

I think it's the players , at first I thought it wasn't but starting to think it's them , I think a lot of people think our players better than they are
