Huws needs to improve the tempo of Cardiff's play

By Chris Wathan

The surprise about Emyr Huws' arrival at Cardiff City wasn't that the Bluebirds were interested in him – he is an excellent talent after all – but who would make way from the midfield for him. With the Wales international able to play both deep, central and advanced in the midfield areas, you could make an argument for any of the current first choice being at risk. Which made it a case of bad timing for Joe Ralls to look so pedestrian in the Cardiff middle ground. A player who is dynamic when at his best, Ralls looked lethargic at times here. When he did make the right pass – and there were plenty of sloppy ones – he didn't make the second run to make himself available for the return ball. He covered okay defensively but in a game that cried out for tempo, he was more guilty than most for slowing it.

The managers tactics dictated the tempo IMHO.
On the odd occasion that a player advanced beyond the QPR back line, city players were seen visibly shouting / gesturing to lay the ball back (usually to Whitts)
