VINCENT TAN THE FAILURE

Mon Aug 15, 2016 9:02 am

A MAN who doesn't understand football collects football clubs, like I collect bruises, has absolutely no interest in the great game, and if this is his best effort, then God forgive him, HE IS A FAILURE :bluebird: :bluebird:

Correct, extended a stadium to 35k without ensuring PL stability. Now wants the club to be self-sufficient without employing anyone capable of achieving this objective and keep the club competitive.

Summary: A disastrous first attempt to own a football club.

Abramovich: The ultimate organiser. First signing was a CEO (Peter Kenyon) who used to oversee the biggest and most successful football teams Man Utd.

Abramovich & Tan. Both Billionaires, one a failure, the other not. One employs the best, the other thinks he knows best

In fairness Wez Abramovich put in a back room staff to oversee everything at Chelsea and yes he has spent Millions and Millions but he's also got a trophy cabinet bulging with silverware.

Chelsea is now run as a successful business, it's profitable. Perhaps over the next years he will reclaim all the investment, especially with all the income PL recieve. Chelsea are Global Brand thanks to Abramovich. I've personally sent Chelsea merchandise abroad on request of in-laws

Not without the right set-up. Don't you remember when Cardiff broke the record for spending as a promoted club or is this going to be forgotten about  :laughing6:

Re: VINCENT TAN THE FAILURE

Vincent Tan has been a unmitigated FAILURE as owner of Cardiff City Football Club. Anyone who disagrees with this should just take a good hard look at the mess we are in. Newport County are in a far healthier financial state than we are. And our other Welsh rival, Swansea City go from financial strength to strength and grow bigger and bigger. We are literally not even in the same league and I doubt we ever will be. We have been well blown away by them. That's why you see all the young kids walking all around South Wales wearing either Swansea, Liverpool or Man Utd shirts. A great shame, as he could have been a massive hero at CCFC, instead of a hated villan :bluebird:

If we had £800m to spend we probably would have paid £50m for Cornelius! :o

Wez, it's all relevant and the fact remains that Cardiff set a record for an new club going into the Premier League, so ThomasC makes a valid point. City had a good set-up but it was spoiled by a number of factors, including both the owner and manager's antics ;) :ayatollah:

As a business man, getting rid of the high earners and living within your means is the correct way to go. It was the price we have to accept to play in our beloved blue, he made it quite clear to pump in money we had to play in red.

I think you will find Swansea are not as financially stable as you believe. A club running a wage bill which is 82% of turnover are one relegation away from disaster.

We can only hope :D

Yes but I believe he is learning from the mistakes which is the positive.

Cant really compare us to what happened at Chelsea who are a global brand.

abramovic has made millions of mistakes. however, he kept funding £100m losses for years on end, and because of the construction of the premier league at the time, and lack of money in the game at the time he purchased the club, he was able to win multiple trophies. for a much better example of business sense and 'ultimate organisation', look no further than the glazers at manchester united. yes they have sucked the life and soul out of the club, but they have turned it into a commercial behemoth, and made billions in the process.

tan lacks any football business sense. football is a business of its own, which he fails to understand. however, to compare abramovic as a model owner? cronyism is rife at chelsea. look at michael emenalo, avram grant and a multitude of people behind the scenes who get jobs at the club through cronyism and not merit.

Very good points, Glazers and Tan are football 'investors' where as Abramovich has so much money, the purchase was success orientated without worry of losses. I do believe Chelsea is now profitable. As for cronyism at Chelsea, I would say the most important positions are almost always filled correctly. Avram was defo stop-gap.

look behind the scenes at all the key individuals running chelsea. they are almost exclusively cronies. and it should come as no surprise, abramovic is russian, a country where cronyism and corruption are part of everyday political and business life.

tan is an investor, but also a fame hungry individual who yearns for attention and adulation. it is that desire which led him to loosen the purse strings. i have seen 3 year old children with less need for attention and validation, than vincent tan. what price can you put on 30,000 fans singing your praise? for an individual like tan who yearns for people to sing his name, that is almost priceless.

of course, now that there is zero prospect of that ever happening again (entirely his own fault), it is clear that tan has resorted to the more business like approach which is to make the club live within its means.
