Sky is screwing championship clubs for growth

Mon Aug 15, 2016 5:33 am

This year, Sky has tightened the grip. And is protecting And rebranding premier league. People who have followed English football for 50 years, are being robbed for the chance to follow their clubs. The championship is not being promoted, televised or given any focus in Europe. In the past, English football has been served as a package. Now sky has separated tv rights, over priced it, and no one is buying. What this mean for the smaller clubs, is that they are living solely self sufficient, on scraps from the premier league, and is being strangeled for growth in Europe. 900,000 spectators Came to UK last season, leaving a staggering amount of income for the local community. Also shirt sales will hurt from this. With Sky now solely promoting premier league, championship clubs and their communities are being robbed. Worst part. I don't think they even know..

If it was not for Sky no one would watch the championship, they actually show more league games than Premiership.

We should be grateful for what we get despite it being a fraction they pay the big clubs in the Premiership.

What a ridiculous thread.

Sky love the Championship and we are getting more coverage than ever before (as a league). I am slightly dissapointed that they are having a PL Friday night game this season but I understand that this won't be every Friday.

Not surprised, your missing the point. They might show the games on sky, but foreign tv networks won't buy the tv rights just for the championship. They had a pricey jump on premier league, and me as a consumer is paying 30% more this year. That's 480£ just to watch it on tv. Most people I know spend approx between 1000 to 1500£ for a trip, and that is ONE game. Multiply that by 9000000, and we are talking serious money. Loyal supporters will stay loyal. But the growth and recruitment will die. Smaller clubs and communities will suffer for it mates..

Off course foriegn tv companies are not going to buy the rights for the championship only and not want the Premiership.

The Premiership is where it's at,would we all subscribe to a TV channel only showing Swedish league two games of course not and foriegn Tv channels know hardly anyone in the their country would watch Cardiff v Blackburn for instance.

They pay big money for the Premiership games because that's where the interest is.
