PAUL TROLLOPE: "BLAMES CARDIFF CITY DEFENDERS"

Cardiff City boss Paul Trollope disappointed with defensive errors after former Bluebird Steven Caulker sends QPR on way to 2-0 win

BY PHIL SMITH

Sunday 14th August 2016

Bruno Manga gave away a late penalty to compound a disappointing day at the Cardiff City Stadium

Trollope was left frustrated by QPR's late burst and said It was two poor decisions from our defenders.

Cardiff City boss Paul Trollope bemoaned his side's defensive lapses in the second half but conceded that more creativity is also required going forward.

The Bluebirds failed to find the net for the third successive game as former player Steven Caulker opened the deadlock and sent his team on the way to a 2-0 victory.

Trollope said: “We dipped in the second half and when you have those periods you have to be resolute and do the nitty-gritty right, we didn't do that from a wide free-kick. We didn't think our goal was under too much threat, QPR did come out well in the second half and pushed us back which happens in games. It was a case for us of trying to see that through.

“It was two disappointing goals from our point of view. It was two poor decisions from our defenders. The free-kick that led to the first goal, we had a good shape about us, we had the play locked down one side which you try hard to do, and he was going nowhere. So it's ended up in our goal from an innocuous position really.

“The penalty was disappointing, at 1-0 you're still in the game. It's a simple throw-in and Bruno had the lad facing away from goal and it was a bit of a lunge so I can't complain with the decision.”

Cardiff had looked largely in control of proceedings until their defensive collapse but it was not until stoppage time that they had an attempt on target.

Trollope added: “We were pleased with a lot of the things we saw in the first half, we were in the ascendancy and managed to take quite good control of it, though we didn't really fire going into the box and didn't create the chances our play probably deserved.

“It's disappointing. We scored well through pre-season, created chances, our strikers scored goals. But it's been three frustrating games, at Birmingham especially in the first half we created a number of good chances which we didn't manage to convert.

“Today I thought we got up there well enough, we didn't do our business near their box to do create those chances. For all the play we had in that first period we were disappointed not to create more.”

Buck stops with Trollope and his negative football!'

We created absolutely nothing.

Useless being neat and tidy and having good possession in our own half or around the halfway line.

We didn't "control the game" at all. Their goalie might as well have not been on the pitch for all the attacking threat we posed today.

Not good enough Trollope - not good enough at all.

Buck your ideas up and do it quickly - we actually look worse this season than we did last.

We really are dogs poo! Never thought that i would say this but after a lot of thought I firmly believe that we should bring back Mr Dave Jones. Sorry Mr Trollope but goodbye..

I think this is very poor by Trollope to single out just the defenders.

First home game gone and he already sounds like a clown.

Why not talk about the inept attacking play which led to frustration throughout the team.

Looks like it's another season of shifting the blame management.

Sooner Bellamy comes in the better

I was confused with the subs today ... I would have moved Immers up front and taken Pilkington off ..
But you cant blamw defence it was a poor game from both sides ..

Oh shut up I'm glad people like you are not in charge we would have managers every 5 minutes and what guarantees that Bellamy would get off to a good start and you would want him gone if he started like Trollope has.

Personally, I'm not enamored by PT at all. Just another one of VT's cheap options, from the lower divisions. What exactly does one expect?

Simple, he wouldn't play a passive, safe game of football, he would actually have the team attacking.

I don't want a new manager all of the time, that's you playing guessing games. What I do want is the right manager. OGS, Slade & now Trollope. 3 managers I never wanted in the first place so "shut up" yourself. The problem we have is we actually do have people like you in charge. People with no idea about football.

I was'nt one of those who was particularly impressed with Trollope's appointment. As I said at the time, he was sacked by Bristol Rovers who were in the relegation places in Div 2, he was part of the problem here last season, and I did'nt go along with those who were excited about his appointment and all the optimism about a new formation. However, it is way too early to press the panic button, and I won't have a dig at him for the rest of the season. It will be difficult for him given the limited resources he will be given, but I am sure he will give 100%, and should be capable of ensuring our Championship status is maintained.

Unlike I am giving Trollope a chance to install his philosophy and understanding that it wont take overnight to do and someone who understands football will know that so you're who knows nothing about football.

All the team was poor -

Connolly made several school boy errors

Distribution was slow - Marshall was frustrated players not concentrating leaving him many back passes to clear away under pressure

Trollope had 90 mins to change game and get something positive out of the team and the double substitutions on 80th minute was defiantly the wrong call

Cardiff were caught off side every time they had a glimmer of a chance and when in front of goal were useless

The new system will take time but to loose Fabio who would of fitted nicely into the wingback must of been a setback.
We lacked pace with no one to attack there defenders. We have Noone but unfortunately for some totally unexplained reason he only ever plays well when he comes on as a sub.
We are lacking any sort of creativity and we need a striker with an eye for goal and pace. What we got at the moment made Tony Philiskirk look like Ronoldo.

Someone tell Marshall to stop playing the ball out from the back at every attempt and show some intent to go forward instead of being patient.

It should have took pre-season. That's what it's for. Going into the season with it nowhere near functional is amateur.

If any serious analyst watched that game they would pick out a number of areas where we played the formation poorly today.

Lack of roaming from the centre-backs into midfield so a midfielder can push forward, lack of pressing up front and midfield, not enough bravery in possession from the wing-backs... Attacking midfielder Immers playing far too deep leading to isolation up front. Pilkington looked absolutely lost just like Noone did against Bristol Rovers...

It wasn't even as if we were trying these things and failing, it was that we weren't trying things at all! :x

If that's me not understanding football then you're right, I really am clueless. :thumbright:

Poor today, but far too early to gel.

I think the biggest mistake we've made was playing so many first teamerd at Rovers.

Several looked tired2nd half and we dropped off badly after 60 minutes.

Said before that we should have played fringe and kids at Rovers. Paid for it today, John, Ralls, Manga, Richards all had quiet games and looked jaded 2 nd half.

Yes we need more spark- but today the striker looked OK, he needs a bit of time, and some service.

For 10 mins before the goal we were being over run in midfield trollope should have gone 451 and brought on gunny leaving immers our best player on the pitch, I do wonder whether he is up to the task in our circumstances, he must be a yes man

The players will need more than a pre season and to play against proper opposition to get full grip with 352 and its good to have these defeats it gives the manager and of course the players lessons on what needs to be done and of course I keep saying it will take time but I'm prepared to give the manager and the team patience can you?

I'm another one who believe that PT's pre season commitments with Wales (which were sanctioned by our club) have not been conducive to our playing style & organization. Poor judgement, imo.

Everyone around me was shouting for a change of formation or personnel.
We were being overun yet no changes were forthcoming.
Immers mom in myour opinion was then taken off instead of being pushed forward.
Blackburn is monumental and with fulham to follow
Already the excuses are coming forward in that we had no problems scoring pre season.
Really ?
CEO S OR CHAIRMAN NEED TO LEAD IN TIMES OF DIFFICULTY.
are they afraid of upsetting Tan or awaiting his Response?

Everyone was blaming Slade last season and I said then I will say it again the whole coaching team was to blame and we needed new blood a decent manager instead again the cheaper option a manager who will do what he is told , we are in trouble

Drop Whitts, Drop Ralls as well if he doesn't step up.... Give Adeyemi a role in middle, obviously include Huws. Secure a stalwart in mold of Jedinak to captain side from the middle of the park as it should be and fix the striker issue. Too much to ask?

Going from selling two very solid left backs in Fabio and Malone and getting Jazz Richards shows the ambition and how backwards we gone.
