'Swansea City have done good business this summer'

Former Swansea City star Leighton James has praised the Swans for their transfer dealings this summer. In his column for the South Wales Evening Post, he wrote:

Swansea City’s summer can be described in one simple word — profitable. With Andre Ayew leaving for West Ham in a £20.5 million deal and Everton paying £12 million for Ashley Williams, there has certainly been a fair amount of cash to swell the Liberty coffers. When you consider Fernando Llorente, Borja Baston, Leroy Fer, Mike van der Hoorn and Mark Birighitti were bought for a combined sum of around £28 million, the figures heading in and out of the club make for pleasant reading.

Fair play, they always get top dollar for their players. Not like our club, who give our players away for peanuts.

they sold players for top end fees, but those players were proven performers. in come unproven players, who are likely to need time to adapt. its a gamble going into a season without a striker who has PL experience. in this market, £12m for ashley williams, even given his age, is not a great piece of business as the stakes have been raised. he will be a huge loss, and one they are highly unlikely to be able to replace with equal quality.

the thing with swansea is that they are a stable club who are never in a position that they need to sell, so they hold out for high fees. they also seem to have a long term strategy, though with the new american owners, the equilibrium at that club is likely to be upset, IMO.

Only avoided the drop by nine points - they'll be weaker, and a bit closer this year.

I think 12m is a good deal for both parties personally, he's aging quickly and his performances dipped last season for what I can see. He wanted to leave which forced the JBs hand so to squeeze 12m out is very good for an aging CB. Seen a lot of Jacks on their board and twitter saying Amat is more than capable to step up.

They always seem to do good business. They grow stronger and stronger and bigger and bigger each year. They are a well run established premier league side and I can't see that changing for a long long time. Not many clubs could challenge them now within 150 miles of Swansea :bluebird:
