Swansea City skipper Ashley Williams on the verge of completing Everton move

The 31-year-old has been at the Swans for eight years and played over 300 matches for the club

Ashley Williams is ready to complete his big money move to Everton with Swansea City set admit defeat in trying to keep hold of their captain.

The Swans skipper is close to putting pen to paper on what is thought to be a four year deal that will end an incredible eight years at the Liberty Stadium after the Toffees refused to give up on their bid to lure the Wales Euro 2016 star.

It is not clear what fee Everton have shelled out for Williams, who cemented his reputation as one of the top defenders in the Premier League following his performances on Wales' run to the European Championship semi-finals.

But it is thought Williams is on his way to Goodison Park having said his farewells at Swansea, ending weeks of speculation over his future.

As reported by WalesOnline last week, Swansea were understood to be ready to give the green light on a £10m deal that would see Williams make the move to Merseyside having first arrived in South Wales following a £400,000 move from Stockport with the club in League One.

Williams had been open to a move having been tempted by Koeman's advances and the seek of a new challenge away from his adopted home.

But the Swans then dramatically turned down Everton's official offer in a late bid to try and persuade the 31-year-old centre-back to stay.

It is thought a series of talks with Williams and club chairman Huw Jenkins were held to try and fight off Everton's move for a player who made close to 350 appearances for the Swans and helped them to two promotions, a League Cup win and European football.

Yet, with the Toffees putting the finishing touches on an estimated £50m sale of John Stones to Manchester City, they returned with an improved offer that Swansea seem to have accepted.

It marks the end of an era at Swansea who will now go into the Premier League campaign without their captain of the past four years.

But Swansea will try and soften the blow by progressing with advanced discussions to wrap up the signing of Atletico Madrid striker Borja Baston who is set to arrive for a club record £15m following the £20.5m exit of Andre Ayew to West Ham.

Like him or not, he's been outstanding for Swansea over the years and has been consistently one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

Huge loss for them as he is still a great defender but 12 million return isn't too shabby at all. Let's just hope his replacement is a flop. :ayatollah:

He was a good player but it isn't a one man team , the most positive is he wasn't/isn't injury prone but time is catching up and he made a lot of errors last season , it's a good time to sell and for 12 million why not he isn't going to go on for ever .

Both clubs will look at this as a good deal.

Reports that the deal was agreed several days ago by all parties (as pointed out on here) but delays in the Stones transfer put it all on hold, which is why it was done so swiftly after he signed Stones was outed as a member of Man city's UEFA Champions League Squad
