Why we should copy the boro method.

Sun Aug 07, 2016 1:30 pm

If we stand any chance of going up we need to take risks. We simply can not rely on hoping our limited squad improves. I agree the wage bill has been an issue but imagine if we didn't have to worry about such things. Yes get shot of Le Fondue etc as they are over paid rubbish. What we need is quality and to get quality you need to pay quality. That's why we need to copy the Middlesbrough method. They were clearly the best team in the championship last year despite only finishing second. They spent big money and it paid off and I very much doubt they will be playing outside the premiership for a long time either. They spent money on established players such as Stewart Downing and Jordan Rhodes and it paid off. Tan clearly has the cash so he needs to bankroll our way back to the promise land. Newcastle are doing it and I guarantee they will go up despite a first game wobble. We should be looking at players like Januzaj, Gareth Barry, David Nugent, Defoe, Carrick and victor Moses. I'm sure they would come to us if the price was right. If we don't sign players of this ilk then we are going to be stuck mid table year after year. I'm sure the promise of premier league football after only one season will be enough to persuade them. We don't have to take away the emphasis on good youth players either, Boro had young lads like Gibson who will most likely become an England International in the next 12 months. I happen to follow the youth game and there is a young lad called Lewis Stier who is a free gent who would be a fantastic addition to our academy. Last season he banged in 45 goals for his team in Hebburn. Come on Cindy get your wallet out pal it's the only way up, don't be threatened by ffp we can easily deal with the fine once we are up in the prem. To be fair I see no reason why we couldn't become a champions league club within 3 years.

More likely to be in administration within 3 years.

Easy to gamble with someone else's money. He's done it once and it's cost him a fortune.

For a Middlesborough, there are plenty of examples where this 'strategy' hasn't worked - Derby and QPR being examples from last season.

The club does need to find a balance - the stated ambition of promotion seems a very long shot when we arguably have a worse squad than last season. I find it hard to believe a coach who was here last season can suddenly galvanise us into promotion material without some investment in obvious problem areas - goal scoring being one!

In the meantime, let's use players we have in the squad if we are paying them (especially such significant wages) - having two proven strikers sitting in the reserves is pointless, especially when every point counts. You'd think it would be better for them to showcase as well so in theory a win, win.

Paragraphs were devised to precisely avoid this. Use them wisely Jedi.

Where has this Guy been, he must of missed the news last season and us breaking the FPR.

And for the record Derby spent 40 million last season and it sure didn't work for them.
