He said "We need to do the basics better having conceded from a corner and penalty". No 23 on his top 100 excuses for losing. ;)

Kelvin Etuhu scored one for Bury.

This:

"You don't want to get off to a disappointing start and that's what has happened. We will struggle if we don't value the basics," Slade told the club's official website after the game.

"We conceded from a corner and from the penalty spot - that's about doing he basics right. It's a focus thing, a concentration thing and that's an area that we have to get better at.

"It wasn’t a classic performance by any means but, in the second period, I thought we were the better side. We were starting to get on top, we were moving the ball much better.

"We were taking control of the ball without making too many opportunities, though Ricky had that good chance.

"We were getting on top at the stage when we didn't value the basics. We shot ourselves in the foot."

Value the basics, eh. That's the script for this season sorted.

Um Sven, I have no problem whether he does it or doesn't - it's what he does earning his crust on the pitch, in public and around the schools that I'll watch out for!

I said so yesterday, but I also asked if the rumour was true he wouldn't play against Swansea should we play them and it was in his contract - that rumour came from the boys in the Wig and Pen pub - St Helens Road, Swansea - who know him!!

3.47pm yesterday - he's made it well known in Swansea he won't do ayatollah - it's not a big issue.

How he plays that counts - but is it true he has it in his contract he can;t and won't play against swansea?

It's all doom and gloom on the Addicks forum. Sounds like Russ has an uphill climb there. Good luck to him though, he did a fair job with us in very difficult circumstances.
