The Ayatollah

Sun Aug 07, 2016 12:46 am

We must be the only fans in the country that expect our players to be listening to the crowd during important passages of play and start doing traditional head tapping gestures. FFS use the chant during breaks in play not when they are trying to defend a corner or whatever. f*cking numbskulls.

I agree. He is a Professional Footballer doing his important job. He is focussing 100% on what is happening on that field..it is like if you are in a place of work and, you get a phone call demanding you do the "Ayatollah" you'd think nothing of it.

do you find the process of head slapping difficult? Will you short circuit if such demand is given, and totally forget why you woke up in the morning?.

Why can't a player concentrate on the pitch, and acknowledge the fans off it? Are you're views disrespectful to Cardiff City Legends that somehow managed to do both?

Is a head slap really too much to ask?

Cardiff sign a Welsh player to bring harmony to the club and bring some positive karma. Now we are seeing the results, a section of fans to branding the majority I might add 'f*king numbskulls'

Great job transfer committee :?

I don't get this "it's part of the club's history" nonsense. It did'nt exist for the first 30 years that I followed the club, and it's not part of our history at all. It's something that has only been going on for the last twenty or so years. To me, slapping your own head is a bit of fun, and I am not going to lose any sleep just because a player does'nt slap himself across the head. I would hope that players express their appreciation for the support at the end of a game or while being subbed, but I like to think I am grown up enough not to get my knickers in a twist over something this trivial. There are far more important things in life to worry about.

Spot on..
It dies amaze me when they chant it when players are defending a corner.
Our fans are our worst enemies, seem to love bringing the club down.
Look our many hits this topic has had.
Not much said in how well Carfiff played yesterday.

Well were not all on the blue rinse bus! I'm 26 and it's been about ever since I was following city so to many fans it is a big part of who we are.

If the rumours are true and jazz has actually vowed to avoid it, he's the immature one not the fans. There's no way he hasn't acknowledged it after two players physically told him to do it but he made a conscious effort to refuse.

When you've lived a bit you will probably get to realise there are more important things in life to worry about than some football player slapping his head. When we started the Ayatollah it was mainly banter between supporters in different areas of Ninian Park. Then we started on the manager, then got players doing it. As I said, not part of club history for me and personally I could'nt give a hoot whether or not a player slaps his head as long as he appreciates the supporters at the end of the game.

Don't worry I'm not loosing any sleep over it. I'm just passionate about my club and feel it's important that the players recognise the fans and their traditions (albeit one that's not 60 years old!). Sorry if that sounds silly and immature I'll sit quietly at the next game in fear of offending anyone.
