Sources close to Cardiff City say there have been no bids for Brazilian full-back Fabio, but interest is expected over the coming week.
Any interested clubs will have to meet the release clause in his contract, thought to be in the region of £2 million.
Losing the dynamic defender would be a big blow to the club as he has been a key part of Paul Trollope's switch to a 5-3-2 during pre-season, enjoying the licence to get forward and attack.
Sources close to Boro say they expect an offer from Middlesborough to Cardiff City for Fabio.
According to Sky Sports News, Fabio Da Silva is attracting interest from recently promoted Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough are lining up a move for Cardiff City defender Fabio, sources close to the club have told ESPN FC.
Boro boss Aitor Karanka has been looking to bolster his side's defensive options and he has targeted a move for versatile full-back Fabio.
The former Manchester United defender is entering the final year of his contract at Cardiff and the Championship club are prepared to cash-in on him while they still can.
The 26-year-old moved to England from Fluminense in February 2007 when United signed both Fabio and his twin brother Rafael. He joined Cardiff in January 2014, but could not help the club avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Fabio came to Karanka's attention last season when he scored a superb goal against his side in the Championship and he has been keeping tabs on his progress ever since.

That's where he scored the wonder goal last season wasn't it?

Maybe that's why he wasn't at the open training? if they make a decent offer I think we'll def sell. I would be very disappointed if he left to be honest.

Yes, the 25 yarder

He was there but was resting. We'd be foolish to sell him - he can cover both wing back positions

What irritates me is the short term thinking.
If we sell fab or whitts, manga, marshall, ralls, gunnar - we have lost players that could be reasonable if we got into the premier league.
We sell them for x£s, we replace with lower cost or within, then, if promoted, we pay through the nose for journeymen to help us fight relegation.
It doesnt make financial sense to me?
A team consistantly in the top part of championship always needs its 5 or 6 core that could do a job in the league above - just in case the lottery to go up is achieved.

I think its because he only scored that goal.

If Fabio was sold, I would be fuming

What pub are people heading to tomorrow ?
Fri Aug 05, 2016 11:17 am
2m plus addons and he'll be gone. Reported 25k off the wage bill too.
Fri Aug 05, 2016 11:23 am
Get rid ASAP cannot defend always out of posistion, for a player who is on good money he is useless
Fri Aug 05, 2016 11:24 am
Good opportunity to cash in on him and get him off the wage bill in my opinion. He will always be a reckless, headless chicken, making wrong decisions and getting caught out of position. Fans will miss his enthusiasm, but I believe we can easily bring in a better quality replacement than Fabio on a much lower wage.
Fabio is one of those who's a defensive liability, lacks end product, but because he's Brazilian and constantly runs around making crunch tackles (mainly because he's surrendered possession or got caught out of position), our fans love him.
Fri Aug 05, 2016 11:30 am
obviously Boro have no interest in staying up
Fri Aug 05, 2016 11:42 am
I really do think that we should sell him, last year of contract and cant defend for toffee. Intention has always been to sell him, why do you think Jazz was brought in.
Fri Aug 05, 2016 11:46 am
Had Fabio been sold last season in our flat back 4 I would have said take the money.
However our new style is made for him therefore would be madness to sell him now?
Unless the final year of his contract is a consideration

I would be gutted too but unless he's going to sign an extension then if we let him just wind down the last year of his contract and leave for nothing isn't that going back to the mistakes we made in the past ?

He's not the most solid defender but he's absolute tailor made for this wing back position. Given an attacking lease in this formation he will be player of the year I garentee it.
Our fans love him because he wants to play attacking football and he wears his heart on his sleeve!
Fri Aug 05, 2016 12:01 pm
Standard championship players are going for silly money at the moment so he got to be worth 5-6m.I mean,if Ross Mcormack can fetch 12m.Feckin games gone mad.
Be sorry to see him go though and it wouldn't send a good message to the fans.Feel sorry for Trollope as he doesn't appear to have any say in the matter and maybe all this talk about going for it is just the same old BS to fool the fans.
I wonder if he'll play tommorow
Fri Aug 05, 2016 12:12 pm
I would be disappointed as if we predicted we play with wingbacks he is perfect for the role. However no doubt he is on a big wage and if we can get a decent fee then I would sell.
We have Richards and people seem to think John is good enough

no doubt we would bring someone else in. Wonder if the likes of Gunnar, Kennedy or even Noone could do a job at wingback.

Well let's see what we get for him?
Plus it's alright saying leaving for nothing etc Fabio could be the DIFFERANCE in us getting in to the play offs then costing us a lot of money.
Also when we do sell, we never seem to buy new players with it do we ?

Do you think so Annis? I don't think he will be the difference, if im honest this squad looks quite a few players off making the play/offs. Still far to much deadwood not moved out. if we can get a fee and if he is a high earner then its one of those cut backs that has to be made.

I agree with everything you say but many of us have expressed disgust previously when players that we could have got money for are allowed to leave for nothing at the end of their contract.
Even if we gave him away, if the figure of £25K per week is anywhere near correct, we would save £1.2m on wages. If you factor in a replacement's wages of say £10k per week that would still give a saving on wages of £720K.
I don't want Fabio to go, particularly as I think Trollope will get more out of him, but from a financial perspective it makes much more sense, particularly if people are really convinced that John will make the grade (I'm not convinced of that by the way !!).

Yes we have, but the difference is now, we don't see re-investment and to many fans there is no ambition being shown, it's not the fans fault, 7 years later the owner is still learning how to run a football club, never mind respect it.
Fri Aug 05, 2016 1:06 pm
If this opens up the funds to sign a goalscorer then sell. And you cant really blame the club considering he could go for free at the end of the season.
Fri Aug 05, 2016 1:27 pm
He's not the best so if we could get an half decent price for him then sell. We want to get the high earners off the books and 25K wages is high for our club so i for one wouldnt be to disheartend if he goes.
For years everyone has moaned about debts and silly wages and fee's now we are starting to be run sensibly fans are moaning..

Annis, that is all so true!

I don't see the stats backing up he is an important figure at the club. I do love the commitment though.
The club should always look at bids if they will improve the club further down the line. I don't see the club's vision for the future, it's not clear to me
Fri Aug 05, 2016 3:05 pm
Fabio is my favorite player and I Would be gutted if he left from a playing perspective. That said, with my business head on he is in his last year and we are unlikely to renew his deal, certainly not at the wages he is on. So if we got 2 million for him I would say it is good business. We have tutonda coming through well in pre season for a more formal left back and declan is basically out of the fabio mould. Could Ralls do a job on the left too? IS fabio a key player? No probably no. Should have have been? Absolutely. Very under used by Slade all through his tenure - a few guys are like that!!!!
So basically I think we can accomodate for his loss if he goes and we should wish him well for always giving 100% to the cause, never once moaning about being messed around and having a chance to play in the premier league and pushing on to the higher level - all while we get 2 million and cut the wage bill.
