After subscribing to cardiff player , i recieved my 2015/2016 season review DVD , so thought id give it a watch ...well... i may be stating the obvious here but in my opinion we are starting this season far weaker than we started the last .. over the first part of the season , regardless of what people think of them and there wages/transfer fee , jones and mason played really well and were accountable for a lot of our goals ..im not saying these guys should have stayed , they both had to go for various reasons again wages/transfer fee but the fact they have not been replaced by an experienced championship striker or 2 , for me puts us in a far weaker position ..i really hope this is sorted out in the next 3-4 weeks . To be honest we have been goal shy for quite a while now lacking that 15 goal a season striker , for us to have any success this must be addressed.

I'm not sure we are, Immers, Zohore and Fred instead of Kenwyne and Mason is no real difference to be honest, we then have Jazz instead of Malone so again similar comparison of two not great players. What we then have is the apparent willingness of a coach to then play other members of the squad who we never part of the plans last year eg Declan. So all in all I think we are better BUT saying that there are 2 of the 3 that came down who are every strong and several others who have again strengthened well eg Leeds and the Wurzels. I'm sure we will get 2 or 3 more in and then we'll have a better idea.

I think we are roughly on a par with what we had last season. The league will be tougher this time, and that is why I think we will finish lower than last season's 8th place. I doubt if money will be made available to buy a 20 goal a season striker, and I think we have to accept that for the time being staying in the Championship is the club's main priority for now. I don't believe that there is any threat of us making a serious promotion challenge anytime soon.

I'll tell you after 10 games, as my initial thought are that our strikers are yet to prove themselves, so the jury is out on that one at the moment
However, I see the rest of the team as being better balanced and I'm more confident of a decent season than I was last under a coach that knows his formation and the players he wants within it!

I'm not sure why there is this surge inconfidence as far as our manager is concerned. We need to remember he was sacked by Bristol Rovers, and was part of the club structure which failed last season. I hope he does well, but I don't share most of the views on this forum that he is going to make a massive difference to this club. I honestly can't see any huge differences between what we had last season and what we have this season.

Apart from bringing youth and formerly fringe players into the fold, introducing new playing systems (the main one based on his Wales experience) that work to the strengths of the squad not against it, and what sounds like a complete change in fitness and conditioning work through Ryland Morgans and the rest of the coaching team. I think there is every chance we can get more out of the existing squad (although I hope for a few more signings at the top of the pitch - with goals and pace) and by changing to the Wales 5-3-2 system as Plan A (and amazingly we have a Plan B and C too) we use our strength at CB whilst getting the most out of FBs who are better attacking than defending. I think that is a fairly big difference from a year ago under Slade.

Are people putting too much faith into this formation. Most teams have systems in place to combat any formation that they come up against, and if there was one particular formation that was going to guarantee success, then every team would use that same formation. What worked for Wales is not certain to work for us. Time will tell.

Yes I agree. It takes time for even top quality players to adapt to a new system which they may not be used to playing.
Having said that I am interested to see how the new format impacts on the performance of the team. At times it was such a chore watching the City under Slade - hopefully it will make for better entertainment but as you say time will tell.
Ultimately it's the players who make the system succeed or fail, not the other way round.

All well and good playing the Welsh formation but we have not got Bale,Williams,Ramsey,Allen, etc. to carry it out.
Slightly worse than last season expecting a 10th/11th posistion.
