WILLIAMS A DONE DEAL?

Everton are set to complete the £10m signing of Swansea defender Ashley Williams in the next 48 hours, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

Ronald Koeman is expecting to lose John Stones this summer and has made the Swansea skipper his number one priority.

WILLIAMS 'CLOSE TO EVERTON'

02/08/16

Ashley Williams is closing in on a move to Everton from Swansea, according to the Guardian.

The Wales captain is reportedly expected arrive at Goodison Park for around £10m, following an eight-year stint at Swansea.

The Ashley Williams situation as it stands

Monday 1st August 2016

Right, so much speculation over the weekend but here are things as we understand right now, although this is of course a situation that can change very quickly.

After talking to sources close to the player and the Swans, our understanding is that there has been no official bid yet, let alone a fee agreed.

However, there is genuine Everton interest in Williams, with new Toffees boss Ronald Koeman seemingly resigned to losing his star defender John Stones to Manchester City for £50m.

Previous attempts by other Premier League clubs to lure Williams away from the Liberty Stadium have always been knocked back by either the Swans or the player himself.

However, on this occasion our sources suggest the two parties may each see value in a parting of the ways. For Williams, it represents the last opportunity to join a really big club, with ambitious Everton expected to target a top four finish under highly-rated Koeman this season. It could also represent sound business sense for the Swans, given they could net £10m for a player who celebrates his 32nd birthday in a few days’ time and whose current deal takes him up to his 34th year.

I'm getting irritated beyond belief mate. Trouble is though, because of the contract he's on, it's a very difficult situation for the club.
If I was on a certain wage at my place of work and guaranteed it for another year, I wouldn't be that interested in listening to other potential employers unless they at least came close to what I was already earning.
All the talk about professional pride etc means diddly squat to some players unfortunately.
Hopefully CCFC and any potential suitors can come to an arrangement that would benefit all parties concerned and we can move on.

Hopefully, the sting for me is ALF who hasn't exactly been diplomatic about not wanting to be at CCFC and earns in a year what most fans cant earn in a lifetime of work!!!

If we dont deliver in work - we would be out

It is, but it also encompasses other areas of interest to Cardiff City FC and its members ;)

Swansea (I can't say the other word, as I don't believe they are :( ) and the potential for them to fall through the trapdoor this season through their own doing is certainly "of interest" to an awful lot of members

That it is unlikely is another thing, but don't stop them having the dream! :ayatollah: :laughing6:

Whilst Everton are undoubtedly a big Club historically I think this would be a poor move for the player who if he was going to leave the JB's should have done it a few years ago when there was (reportedly) interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.

I don't envisage Everton challenging for the top 4 or 6 even any time soon and at his age I reckon Williams would or should want to be playing week in week out which I don't think he would be guaranteed at Everton (even more so if they do start splashing the cash).

From the angle of a Welsh Football Fan (national side) I would rather our core players are playing week in week out and settled, however I can completely see why people would love it if he left Swansea from a Cardiff/Swansea angle (myself included) as it would signal (perhaps) that they are a club on the slide.

Bit of a daft post, as if you look on here the forum is full of all sorts of football stories and clubs besides Cardiff City.
Williams is also captain of Wales, in case you hadn't noticed, so him and any other Welsh footballer in the news or getting a big transfer is going to be of interest to most forum readers I would imagine.
Besides, this forum is also full of political and current news items outside football!!

Why is it a daft post. He has a point.

No problem with there being "off topic" threads but WHY is it pinned to the top of the board?

Let it languish just below and if the interest is there then it will naturally stay at the top.

If you are interested because it may be the downfall of Swansea then you are sad, if the interest is due to him being the Wales captain then fair enough. I assume, for most, it is the former because that the levels we City fans operate at.

It's a daft post because it's of news to Cardiff and Wales football fans.
He said it's a City MB but it's also a MB for all things football and a lot of things involving politics as I explained hence it has its place on here.
I've nothing to do with where it appears on here and it doesn't bother me if it's the first post or the twenty first post on here.
If that concerns you perhaps you should take it up with the mods.

That is the point of MB's - each poster can make a comment or opinion; I made mine. I have no problem is what people say in response unless it' is offensive. Calling my post "daft" is fair comment ;)

Incidentally whilst I have no interest in Williams I cannot believe Everton are prepared to pay £10m for such an overrated player who is 32. :? They should drive the player up there now and take the cheque to the bank before Everton change their mind.

I quite agree Danny. It's way overpriced in my opinion, however, Everton are apparently in for Fonte from Southampton who I think is a far superior and younger player so it might not even happen!

To think he could have been our player of course had he chosen us over swansea when at Stockport. City if I recall correctly had Johnson, Purse and Loovens at the time so it was was not a biggie.

If memory serves me right,I think Dave Jones choose Johnson in stead of Williams, almost as big a clock up as holding on to Chopra instead of McCormack?

According to the Mirror, Swansea City have rejected Everton’s £10 million bid for defender Ashley Williams.

The Blues are expected to be busy improving their squad this summer, with Ronald Koeman given a big transfer fund by Farhad Moshiri.

He has made just two signings so far, with Maarten Stekelenburg and Idrissa Gueye arriving at Goodison Park.
