JAMIE VARDY: EASY TO REJECT ARSENAL

30/07/16

Leicester forward Jamie Vardy says it was an easy decision to reject Arsenal and hopes Riyad Mahrez will follow him by staying at the club.

Arsenal attempted to lure the 29-year-old to the Emirates Stadium in June after triggering a release clause in his contract with a £20m.

However, Vardy, who was away on international duty with England at Euro 2016 at the time, turned down the chance to join the Gunners and instead committed his future to the Premier League champions by signing a new four-year deal.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News HQ, Vardy said he never held talks with Arsenal during that period and insist he still has unfinished business with Leicester.

"It's not been put out there that I have always said the boys, the close-knit brotherhood, is unbelievable and for me, there's a lot of unfinished business here," he said.

"I feel that the club is only going one way and that is forward, that's why I want to be a part of it.

"It wasn't that big [the decision] when I think about it. It was quite easy and this is where I want to be."

He says he "rejected" but then said he "didn't speak to" anyone at Arsenal :?

A little contradiction there! :laughing6:

Not really. If we bid £20m then by the clause in his contract, they would have to accept. But I very much doubt he would come down for talks, he would just reject the move. Players do not have to move, or discuss terms just because clubs agree a fee. So he still has the power of rejection, which looks to be the case here from what he has said.

I see your point, although I feel that it would have been discussed if such an offer had been made. He stated he was "with England" so couldn't talk but there are several ways communication could have been made and an offer from Arsenal (or any of the top clubs) would not be dismissed without hearing what they had to say. Strengthens his hand at Leicester and it is my opinion that in the end he stayed out of loyalty to the manager and squad that made him a Premier League winner; not Leicester City FC per say!

Admire him for that but he may come to regret when he's older :ayatollah:
