By Neil Moxley

Ashley Williams has agreed to become Ronald Koeman’s first signing at Everton .

The Swansea defender will make the switch to Goodison Park after the clubs agreed a £10million fee for the 31-year-old.

Wales skipper Williams failed to make an appearance at yesterday’s friendly against Wolves and Sunday People Sport understands he has played his last match for the Swans.

The Toffees are in Germany and yesterday played Real Betis in a friendly but Koeman needs reinforcements – and Williams fits the bill.

The stopper’s stock has risen enormously as he led Wales through qualification to a major international tournament for the first time in 58 years.

He was an influential voice as Chris Coleman’s side reached the semi-finals and he can expect to double his £2m-a-year contract with the Toffees.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are locked in stalemate over their bid to land John Stones.

The defender remains high on Pep Guardiola’s wanted list – but Everton are standing firm over their £50m valuation.

It is understood that the light blues have offered £42m and are reluctant to lift that money any higher.

Romelu Lukaku is also firmly on Chelsea’s hit-list. It is understood he has spoken to the club about his future this week and re-iterated his desire to leave.

Wow! Swansea are going to miss Williams leadership (if not his regular own goals) if this goes through!

No strikers, no captain, no leadership!

Initially thought £10m not bad for a 31 year old but when you see the cost of a decent replacement it beggars belief that he could be allowed to leave and brings into question the motives/ambition of the new American shareholders

Well at least they are being positive about it. :D

What a f*cking dreadful decision if true.

If this is true then we really have lost the fcking plot.

Not just another club? An utter fcking embarrassment to be honest.

It's ok though, we have won all out pre season friendlies.

I'm going to bed.

Utter disgrace mate...

Will miss his presents at The Liberty, a player who rarely left the field following an injury. One that often played with injury's and his pre kick off talk was inspiring before every game it seemed to me.
His place is going to be hard to fill. Although over the past few years we've hung on to him by the skin of our teeth.
Good luck Ash, and thanks for the memories.

I agree Dazza. Ash is Superman.

Thsnks Huw Martin and co for selling the club to people who wiĺl truly take the club to another level

On paper, £10m for a 31 (almost 32) year old player is a good deal, but he is (was!) captain of his club and his country, over the years he has been a colossus for Swansea City and a really effective leader and he is going to take some replacing. Having regard to what he means to the club and the hole he leaves, I don't think £10m is enough.
The board now have to move quickly to replace him otherwise there is a risk that the more talented players who are left will feel the club is not matching their ambitions and they will also agitated for a move, a trickle of departures could become a flood!

We are 2 weeks from the start of the new season and 4 from the end of the transfer window, there's a lot of work to be done if we want to have a competitive squad that will be able to hold its own in the Premier League.

£10 million? Having a laugh. What a steal if true.

Stones 50 million Ash 10million. I know age comes into it, but one proven, one prone to more mistakes. Are prices right?

Looks like a fire sale really doesnt it?

Even more laughable given they want £75m for Lukaku

I think that in this context it's safe to say that it is the American sports definition rather than the sale of fire damaged goods at reduced prices.

I think the squad will be weaker come the end of the August.

We all knew this would happen, why anyone is shocked is beyond me

necessary off the wage bill, cash in on assets the best they can and replace with cheaper alternatives. Do the bare minimum to keep their investment afloat while pocketing the surplus. Throw in increased commerical revenues and bingo.

Very much an American sports concept, difference being here there is relegation.

Yes i am sure they have taken that into account thats when the parachute payments kick in.
Only have to ask Blackpool fans about that

I think too many people have been blinded by the idea that the Yanks were going to come here and bankroll us. That's why the usual fair seems to be so much worse now, IMO.

Everybody should made to read, and digest your "value for money" post, in the Joe Allen thread from the other night. Most sense on here in weeks, amongst the total fu*king mayhem.

As it stands we are weaker now than we were last season and we struggled last season. If I was a betting man my money would be on us going down next season

So you honestly think we are in a strong position going into next season? Even if Ash leaves?

Fair enough but it's an absolute mess at the moment. We've still got time to sort it but I'm not very confident!

Brilliant, he has always been way to good for them anyway.

I would imagine he demanded the move this time, he's given them brilliant service, so deserves a move to a big club.

He using the kingpin for Swansea, And one of their most reliable players along with Sigardson, they will struggle if he is not adequately replaced......

Prepping for The Championship, wez!

We wish! LOL

Not sure tbh, wez, but I think this is an odd one and Swansea fans should rightly be concerned at this particular loss even at £10m

(I nearly said "concerned and confused" but they're already that as the season nears under new ownership! LOL)

Strange goings on but as he's almost 32 I guess 10 mill is hard to turn down.
I'll be even happier if Ayew & Sigurdsson move on if the rumours are true!!

Got to agree. £10m for a nearly 32 year old is brilliant business. Yes they will have to replace but that was on the horizon any way.

Mind you if Sigurdsson goes then something will really be going wrong down there.

Selling players like Williams may be financial sense but certainly not playing sense, same applies to sigurdsson sell if right price but at what cost to team,?

Re: " PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB AGREE TO SIGN WALES CAPTAIN "

Sun Jul 31, 2016 1:42 pm

Williams is more than just any 32 year old player. He is their captain, their backbone and their leader.

Yes it makes financial sense to sell a 32 year old defender for that kind of money, but as Allan pointed out, it doesn't make much sense on the playing side of things and they are in massive trouble now. Their CB partnership going into the season will be Amat and Fernandez, they rarely have played alongside each-other from memory. They have absolutely no first team strikers and it looks increasingly likely that Andre Ayew will be off to West Ham, leaving them short in attacking midfield too.

These Americans are stripping them to bare bones and hoping (gambling) that they stay up with what they are left with. Then they have the funds to finance the stadium without paying a penny out of their own pockets. Huw their hero has royaly screwed them and I am loving it :laughing6:

Decent leader, decent defender. Very passionate but he isn't getting any better or younger.

This may turn out to be a decent deal for the Jacks - they have had an excellent recruitment policy of recent years so they may be able to find a younger / cheaper replacement...

Manga maybe? (I hope not!)

Re: " PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB AGREE TO SIGN WALES CAPTAIN "

Sun Jul 31, 2016 2:21 pm

I don't think it's any co incidence that he has been there throughout there rise up the leagues. A huge loss, perhaps the glue that bonded the players? We shall see. They flirted with relegation last season, don't rate their manager, do rate curtis mind, new owners, no signings....could be the time to wave bye bye.... :ayatollah:

As much as I hope it's true. I can't see why they would? 10 mil for his experience quality leadership etc. Theres no reason why he can't still be there in 4yers that would mean they getting 2.5 million per year for him. Surely not even those hillbillies are that f*cking dull

Type in Williams to Everton and there's lots of reports in the media, its not done yet but there's no smoke without fire, the man himself is reported to be interested in the move and wasn't with Swansea yesterday and with the Jack manager himself not denying it, I'd say there's something in it.

Your right about no smoke without fire, the only thing is you usuallly wait for the smoke to clear before you start your fire sale!
Its f@&king bedlum over there at the moment!

If they sell any more decent players they are going to have a riot on their hands. They are going to have to start the season with their development team at this rate while the yanks are sat in their office counting the cash. The only thing they are bank rolling at the moment is their next get richer quick scheme!

If I inherited a billion pounds and bought Swansea City I couldnt do a better job than what they are doing right now. :notworthy:

If I was Hugh I would grab my shit and get the hell out of there before all hell breaks loose!!

Swansea City face their toughest fight yet to keep hold of Wales skipper Ashley Williams amid frenzied speculation of a £10million Everton swoop.

The 31-year-old defensive rock of club and country woke up on Sunday morning to reports that the deal had been done already to take him from South Wales to Goodison Park.

After talking to sources close to the player and the Swans, our understanding is that there has been no official bid yet, let alone a fee agreed.

However, there is genuine Everton interest in Williams, with new Toffees boss Ronald Koeman seemingly resigned to losing his star defender John Stones to Manchester City for £50m.

Koeman wants to immediately re-invest £10m of that windfall to land Williams, who could expect a sizeable increase on his reported £2m Swans’ salary by moving to Merseyside.

Everton FC 'agree £10m deal' for Swansea City and Wales captain Ashley Williams - reports
Previous attempts by other Premier League clubs to lure Williams away from the Liberty Stadium have always been knocked back by either the Swans or the player himself.

However, on this occasion our sources suggest the two parties may each see value in a parting of the ways.

For Williams, it represents the last opportunity to join a really big club, with ambitious Everton expected to target a top four finish under highly-rated Koeman this season.

It could also represent sound business sense for the Swans, given they could net £10m for a player who celebrates his 32nd birthday in a few days’ time and whose current deal takes him up to his 34th year.

The chance of landing that sizeable fee needs to be balanced against how much it could cost to replace Williams’ defensive expertise and leadership in the Swans dressing room, whilst also taking into account the player’s own wishes.

Williams, recently dubbed Wales’ Captain Marvel by Gareth Bale during the march to the Euro 2016 semi-finals, has been linked with a host of clubs down the years after establishing himself as one of the most dependable centre-backs in the Premier League.

Arsenal and Liverpool were amongst the big guns expected to make a significant move, but for whatever reasons bids failed to materialise that matched the Swans’ valuation of their captain and star defender.

Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Hull are amongst others who wanted Williams, but were knocked back.

However, this time it does appear Williams would be open to the prospect of joining a club of the size and tradition of Everton and a move away from the Liberty Stadium, where he has given eight years of stellar service.

Williams has been on holiday since leading Wales to the Euro semi-finals but is due to report back for duty on Wednesday.

However, Swans manager Francesco Guidolin admitted he was uncertain about his skipper’s future, bemoaning the fact that the transfer window is dragging on.

“Ashley is very important to us and I don’t know what the situation is,”” said Guidolin after his side’s 4-0 pre-season win at Wolves.

Everton assistant manager Erwin Koeman heightened the Williams speculation by saying there would be activity in the transfer market this week.

“Ronald and the chairman are very busy with that,” he said.

It does seem like there's a bit of unrest down there at the moment, I'm not getting carried away before a ball has been kicked. If the 3 mentioned players leave and they don't bring in anyone of equal quality then I'm sure they'll struggle.

It is hard not to enjoy what seems to be happening down there at the minute though. :laughing6:
