Rotherham United: No Adam Le Fondre, but Alan Stubbs wants Millers deals before opening day

Thursday 28th July 2016

By PAUL DAVIS

Manager Alan Stubbs has ruled out a move for Rotherham United old boy Adam Le Fondre, but is intent on bringing more new faces to the Millers before the start of the Championship season.

Hitman Le Fondre, who scored 58 goals in 105 games for Rotherham between 2009 and 2011, is surplus to requirements at Cardiff City where he has been training with the under-21s.

However, the 29-year-old isn’t on Stubbs’ wish-list as the Millers boss seeks to bolster his attacking options by signing two new strikers.

When The Star asked about possible interest in Le Fondre, Stubbs replied: “No. There are names getting thrown about left, right and centre and he’s not one that we’ve taken any further.”

The most prolific spell of Le Fondre’s career came with Rotherham and he also scored goals in the Premier League with Reading. Last year saw him struggle in a season-long loan at Wolves where he bagged just three goals in 30 outings.

The Millers lost 2-1 on Tuesday at League One Scunthorpe in their final pre-season friendly before their August 6 opening-day home clash with Wolves.

Rotherham manager rules out Le Fondre move

Rotherham United are looking to bring in new signings before the season starts but manager Alan Stubbs has ruled out an Adam Le Fondre return.

The striker, who is no longer wanted by Cardiff City, banged in 58 goals in 105 games for the Millers between 2009 and 2011, but they won’t be offering him a way out of South Wales.

I doubt that they don't want him, more that they can't afford him.

Yeah fair enough. I thought he was willing to take a pay cut but how much I'm not sure. Him, kiko and dico are the last of the dead wood now.

Exactly, he's not willing to take a pay cut. Rotherham would be an ideal 'location' and professional move.

My worry is we're going to have a job shifting him, Kiko and Dikgacoi due to wage demands. Just hope our signing of a couple of players isn't dependent on these going. We need a striker desperately.

I think it is. Problem going to be wages. You would think these so called "Football Players" who love playing the game would rather be playing on 10k a week rather than sit in reserves on 20k

Totally agree and to be fair I think the club is now being run in a sensible way hence its the right way to do things. If we can have a good season of building then next year we have a clean slate to start bringing in the signings fans want to see.

It's such a same but at least the club are putting right the mistakes of the past.

PS I also thing it proves that these players only ever came for the money!

Not sure that's true of Macheda in fairness, as I believe he came for an opportunity to work with OGS but (as happens) it simply didn't work for a number of reasons ;)

The other two? Well, you are certainly right on one and probably right on the other :ayatollah:

The trio in question will probably see out their contracts until January, at the very least. This is going to hurt, but that's the way it is. Not any one of the three players is worth a fraction of what they are paid,,,piss poor management, authorised by piss poor executives.

ALF also came to play for OGS. Dikgachoi just came because Greggs is over the road from the ground

Last year Trollope recommended to Slade that he should give Mason more of a chance in the 15/16 season over Le Fondre, Trollope was a big fan of Mason and thought he had more quality over Le Fondre so not shocked he isn't getting a look in.
