The Rack Pack

Sat Jul 23, 2016 7:01 pm

Anyone else watch this film by the BBC?

It is absolutely brilliant as it follows the life of Alex Higgins from 1973 until he quit in 1990. Just how the makers found so many look a likes is amazing.

Steve Davies, Jimmy White, Bill Werbeniuk, Cliff Thorburn, Willie Thorne, Ray Reardon, Barry Hearn and the Hurricane were all played by actors who were as good as the real thing.

It is on BBCi player.

I clicked on this thread thinking it would be about a group of ladies with large boobs ;)

I bet I'm not the only one either.

Couldn't sleep one night and found it on iplayer.

I put it on hoping it would put me to sleep but is was totally engrossed.

The actors were fantastic. Bloody hell Higgins hated Steve Davis.

A lot of these things you see on iPlayer are absolute rubbish. I always think there must be a reason why they haven't put it on TV.

But not this. A great watch and would recommend to anyone - even if they don't like snooker. It's not really about snooker, just two very different personalities who happened to play snooker.

I've read up a lot on Alex Higgins and his rivalry with Steve Davis, amongst other things. But nothing tells the story like this does.

..And I thought Ronnie O'Sullivan was controversial for that sport

It was on BBC 2 a couple of weeks ago. Some scences filmed in Terry Griffiths snooker hall in Llanelli.

Cheers just found and downloaded it - never heard of it before but loved The Hurricane. I met Steve Davis once when I worked in London and he was actually quite a nice guy with a huge passion for obscure northern soul music.

I have read a couple of Higgins' books - the man made snooker what it is today but he was also a raving lunatic
