" MINO RAIOLA "

Who, I hear you ask??

Well, Mino Raiola is the Agent of Paul Pogba; apparently about to take over the mantle of 'world's costliest player' when he completes his £100m move to Manchester United in the next few days four years after leaving them for FREE!

My point here?

Well, Mr Raiola will be paid a reported £18.4m by Manchester United for his services in setting the deal up!

Good luck to him, of course. That's the market; albeit a crazy one way beyond my comprehension and I fear for the future of all but a few increasingly controlling clubs in the English pyramid and in Europe

Opinions, please? :ayatollah:

I think agents need to be kicked out altogether. All they do is unsettle players and strike illegal deals with clubs/managers to have their player signed instead of a player belonging to another agent. Agents put theirselves before their clients and while agents do their bit with regards to "looking after" their clients, they certainly don't warrant the amount of money they earn from their clients transfer deals.

Ross, I agree!

It's scary to think about. The place is awash with money at the moment but surely it cannot be maintained? It will only take Sky TV to pull out of the 'product' to be considered "less sexy" for it all to implode. Scotland is a great example of that and why I can appreciate what Tan is doing by making sure we are self-sufficient in our finances! :ayatollah:

Love to know just how much 'work' Mr Raiola did for his £18.4m fee. :?

There is probably a role for agents/player representatives simply because football players tend not to be the brightest stars in the sky and history is littered with tales of footballers finishing their careers penniless.

However, a fee like that is out of all proportion and it is time for clubs to self-regulate when it comes to paying fees in the tens of millions of pounds to football agents.

A significant part of a club's income comes from us (the football fan) via season tickets/sky/BT subscriptions. We also buy goods from the sponsors of football clubs so ultimately this money is coming from our wallets.

100% spot on, Tony. We are the ones feeding the hungry beast that is football and we are still treated as second class citizens and taken for granted. But, as Cardiff City FC have found out, fans are fickle and will stop at the drop of a hat if they're no longer motivated by the 'product' ;) :ayatollah:

More true of the lower leagues than the prem. The turnstyle is no longer king when it comes to revenue.

Football is one of the few industries where the club playsthe agents fees. Would Pogba be so interested in a move if he had to pay the £18.4 million out of his own pocket,I doubt it.

FIFA should make a rule that players pay their agents not clubs, what is the point of negotiating a good deal with the media, only to give it away to agents

He is also the agent of Ibra and Henrik Mkhitaryan.
Just imagine how much money this guy has/will make from Utd this transfer window

It makes you wonder if the agent has struck an illegal deal with Man Utd to get his clients to join them and earn a lot of money from the transfer deals to reward him. It goes on more often than everyone thinks in football.

Some managers are not allowed to select their own players to bring in now. Instead, they are presented with a list of players and are told to pick one from the list. Guaranteed, more often than not, the players on the list all have the same agent, as the agent has struck a deal with the club to take his players in exchange for an illegal bung.
