SURPRISE KLOPP MOVE FOR FORMER CITY MIDFIELD HERO??

Tue Jul 19, 2016 9:22 am

Jurgen Klopp could make a move to bring another midfielder to Anfield, as calciomercato.com report that the Liverpool boss personally scouted Chile star Gary Medel during the Copa America earlier this summer.

Tuesday 19th July 2016

Klopp has brought in a goalkeeper, a centre-back, and a forward already this transfer window in the form of Loris Karius, Joel Matip, and Sadio Mane, but he is also thought to be keen to strengthen his midfield.

Whilst names such as Udinese Piotr Zielinski have repeatedly been linked with the Reds throughout the summer, one surprise potential arrival could could in the form of former Cardiff City man Medel.

The 28-year-old started all six of Chile's games at this summer's Copa America as the nation won a second consecutive title in the tournament.

According to calciomercato.com, Klopp was personally in attendance to watch the star in the USA as he considers a swoop for the defensive star.

Medel has two years left to run on his current contract at Inter Milan, and the report suggests that the Italian club could look to hold out for around €15 million (£12.5 million) for the star.

Medel will be familiar to British football fans for his year at newly-promoted Cardiff City, for whom he became the record signing in 2013 as the Welsh club unsuccessfully attempted to stave off immediate relegation.

With over 300 senior club appearances to his name in Chile, Argentina, Spain, the UK, and now Italy, Medel would bring a wealth of experience as well as his versatility to Anfield.

At the end of the day hero status is all down to opinion and Medel in was in my eyes he gave his all before Malky went and most of the players efforts went from then on. :(

Big difference between hero and legend (the latter takes years to achieve) and Medal arrived with a big fanfare and even his own Pitbull t-shirt!

He was a much liked player; particularly in the early months and always put a shift in

I agree he tailed off but overall he was one of our outstanding players in what turned out (for so many reasons) to be a very flat season

Just my opunion, of course but one that appeared to have been shared during that season at least :ayatollah:

Medel tore his calf and played the second half of the season for us patched up, it was no surprise he wasn't as effective as the first half of the season!

Gary Medel is quite simply, the best footballer I have ever seen in a Cardiff shirt, apart from perhaps Aaron Ramsey. It was a privilege to see a player of that quality playing for us.

He is a great player, why would Klopp be looking at him if he was not ???
