The Welsh defender, who is comfortable in the 5-3-2 formation, has been linked with a move to the Welsh capital

Cardiff City boss Paul Trollope hopes a deal for Welsh international Jazz Richards will be done 'in the near future'.

Should the move go through, the young defender would join an exclusive club of players to have played for both Swansea City and the Bluebirds.

The 25-year-old, who has worked with Trollope in the Wales set-up, is a popular member of the national side and well versed in the 5-3-2 formation that Cardiff will seemingly look to employ.

"We are linked with him (Richards) very heavily. We are hoping that's going to be completed in the very near future and we think he'll be a great addition to the squad," said Trollope.

"We've shown today there are some good younger players who are coming through to make an impact, so we are pleased with where we are, but like most clubs at most levels we are looking to add a few new faces to strengthen the team.

During his first season at Fulham, Richards featured 26 times but found game time increasingly more difficult to come by following Slavisa Jokanovic's arrival at Craven Cottage.

Richards would be Trollope's first Welsh signing as Bluebirds boss, which would be seen as a positive step by the club's owner Vincent Tan, who has issued the new boss with the brief of getting more young Welsh talent into the Cardiff side.

And with Frenchman Frederic Gounongbe being Cardiff's only other capture this summer, Trollope has revealed there could be more arrivals before the transfer window closes and the new season starts.

The Cardiff boss said: "I think there are a few signings to come. We are actively looking to strengthen - I think the group is a good group, there's a good core here.

"With the emergency loan window not at our disposal this year it's important that we have strength in depth."

He also spoke of the players who were missing from today's team.

Joe Ralls was ill and Lee Peltier is injured but both should be good for Germany tour.

It's the sorting out of his bonuses etc bit of a disagreement.

good to see the 5-3-2 working today as wales used it so well. Happy malone is going as he is average at best and that's being nice. Would welcome Jazz as been in that formation foe Wales. More postive this season based on backroom staff as well. Just for gossip I have been told David Cottrell will be with them next week. Told by family relative.
