At least 84 people have died, including children, after a lorry struck a crowd marking Bastille Day celebrations in the southern French city of Nice.

It happened on the famous Promenade des Anglais after a firework display. The driver was shot dead and guns and grenades were found inside the lorry.

President Francois Hollande said the attack was of a "terrorist nature".
He extended a state of emergency across France by three months.

Since June of last year to now France has had 7 known terrorist attacks. Many events have been thawrted and stopped thus not becoming one of the 7. France is not as safe as other members of Europe and this must be addressed, why events have occured and how they have been able to happen so freely.... Free movement and open borders is not a way to keep a country safe.
My heart goes out to the French people RIP to those who lost their lives. :(

Shocking! No wonder so many people died, he stuttered at first then put his foot down and before people knew what was going on they were run down. You can see armed police doing their best to stop him but by the time they got him it was too late. It will be three national days of mourning now. France being such a soft target you cant help thinking its just a matter of time before something like this happens again.

My feelings, apart from the sadness of all those lost innocent lives, I also feel very angry that for a nation that has suffered so badly recently from acts of terror the security forces and the police DID NOT think it was necessary to have that road blocked off to prevent any kind of vehicle attack? That truck could have contained a massive bomb! Surely someone should have realised that this Bastille celebration was a soft target? Bet the French people are saying the same. I know I am speaking with the benefit of hindsight but whoever was supposed to coordinate security at that event failed miserably. R.I.P. to all the innocents who deserved to come home safely from that event.
