The last few days have seen reports suggesting that former Norwich forward Anthony Pilkington could be on his way to Loftus Road this transfer window. The Cardiff man is rumoured to want out of the club and won’t be short of potential suitors.

Pilkington joined the Welsh outfit for a fee of £1million in August of 2014 after he was deemed surplus to requirements, despite an impressive stint with the Canaries, especially during the 2011/12 campaign where he grabbed eight Premier League goals to help guide Norwich to safety.

No doubt Pilkington could be a strong acquisition for the Rs, who will be looking to improve on their 12th place finish last campaign and push for a play-off place. This will no doubt be made harder following the departure of winger Matty Phillips, who joined West Brom for a fee rumoured to be in the region of £5.5million last week. The future of Junior Hoilett is also in doubt, as the winger has left the club following the expiry of his contract at the start of the month, despite receiving a final offer from the club which he may still take them up on.

However, such departures may also make way for more in-comings, and the club will no doubt be looking to add to the acquisitions of Joel Lynch, Jake Bidwell and Ariel Borysiuk. Having already strengthened significantly at the back, they will now be looking to the forward area, where the club could be said to be lacking a winger or two.

Despite this, there are several players entering their second season with the West London side who will be looking to have a breakthrough season. Players such as Ben Gladwin, Nasser El Khayati and Massimo Luongo will be looking to leave their mark on the side this coming season, despite the latter having played 30 times for the club since his arrival from Swindon Town last summer.

The club will be looking to bed in several players from the club’s own youth system next season as well. The likes of Cole Kpekwa, Michael Doughty, Reece Grego-Cox and Olamide Shodipo may be looking to make strides towards the first team squad, as they have all featured in pre-season so far. Shodipo was particularly impressive, and whose tireless running and direct style caused a strong PSV side problems all game when the two sides met of Friday afternoon in a friendly as part of the Hoops’ pre-season tour of the Netherlands.

This news may come as an underwhelming surprise to many Bluebirds fans, however, as this follows a pattern of strange events at the club, following the resignation of Russell Slade after being moved upstairs to become the club’s Head of Football, before he resigned and took the vacant managerial job at Charlton Athletic.

The new boss at Cardiff, Paul Trollope, is reportedly keen to shift some of the clubs high earners as they look to make another push for the play-offs after last season’s 8th place finish.

This will no doubt be made harder by the departure of one of the club’s key men in Pilkington, moving to a divisional rival no less.

Offer Pilks an improved contract. Vinnie the Red is still a bloody billionaire isn't he? 21million last year from parachutes. Keep him and invest in the future. I hope this story isn't true.

All his money butty.Couldn't really argue if he said he's not listening to the likes of me and you.As for Pilks I don't think he's worth any more than what he's getting and if he wants out ten its best to sell him.

Agree, doesn't matter how good he is IF that's true then get rid asap and find someone who wants to play for us

Any idea why he wants to leave?

As long as we get a reasonable fee, then Pilkington leaving would not particularly vex me. My only caveat would be that we need a decent wide man to come in.

Bottom line is that whilst he is a solid, hard working player, he has had one decent goal scoring spell for us. Also, for a long spell he was out injured.

At this stage we need to trust Trollope in his rebuilding of the team in the shape he wants.

It might be that the club is looking to turn £1m into £3-4m without having to spend any money

a) We get £1m for Pilkington
b) Equates to approximate £20,000 per week to spend on another player
c) Example - We add this £20,000 to the proposed £20,000 we may have been wanting to spend on HR-K
d) Free Transfer
e) We end up paying the same amount each week (i.e. the basic £20,000) and have a player worth potentially £3-4m

Even if he has a bad season we wont lose out.

It has to be good business if looking at it from an investment point of view.

We are now a championship club,we have to respect FFP
If pilks was pulling up trees ,I guess we could argue the case ?
Good player ,would rather see a fee and lower wages as an investment though

Pretty much everyone has said we need better out wide and upfront, that makes him a very expensive squad player. Move him on I say

Heard the reason he want to leave is because he threw a tantrum when Trollope told him he was shit upfront good riddance I say.

No offence but I think that's complete nonsense, besides which I'm sure HRK would want a hefty signing on fee which is usually the case when a player is a free agent. This is one of the reasons they let their contract run down.
No matter how you think the club might massage the figures, we ain't paying anybody 40k a week!
