' WHAT OUR FANS DID TO GET THERE BY VINCE ALM '

Part 2

The lengths some of you have gone to follow the national side have not gone unnoticed amongst us financially, commitment, time, and shear will ; here are a few examples of this commitment I’d like to share with you all;

A lad who is unemployed managed to get a ticket for the Slovakia game in Bordeaux but had no money to travel so he sold couple of pairs of his trainers and shoes on ebay for £60, with the money he then booked a 27 hour trip there and 27 hour trip back after the game on a megabus for £40 leaving him with £20 spending money;

The boys who turned up in the train station in Paris on Wednesday the day of the semi final to catch a train to Lyon only to find they had booked the train for August 6th consequently they paid 700 euros to a taxi driver to take them to Lyon.

When Ryan air cancelled all their flights to France because of the air traffic controllers strike a group of lads journey to get to lyon via Bristol Airport to drop off a car, then to Southampton Airport to Avignon. Montpellier on Tuesday, Lyon on Wednesday then flying back from Marseilles to Bristol to get into car one and head to Southampton to collect car two, then home. These are just a couple of dozens and dozens of stories we were told.

Special thanks to all those organisations that run coaches to the games making it affordable for many more supporters, and giving those with limited holiday opportunities a chance to support the team and be part of the experience. I know how hard work it is organising coaches having done it myself for 16 years so well done Wayne Dibbs Wayne Dibs Anderson, Snowy Insole, Leigh James, Rob Santwris to mention a few you played your part deserve a nice break.

It was good to see supporters from years ago who have been unable to follow Wales in recent years enjoying themselves in France, I bumped into many of them it was good to catch up with them. Walking around chatting to supporters from bar to bar it was good to see all the faces who I have met throughout the years enjoying the tournament like the Azerbaijan lads who had driven from Cardiff to Baku, but sorry to many names to mention as it would take another couple hundred pages :-) , but I did see Perry Wyn sat outside a bar in Lille prior to the Belgium game smiling while a rendition of Hymns and Arias were being sung! Who would have thought it?

We are very proud of you all, you were brilliant, fantastic, superb, unbelievable, incredible, excellent, outstanding, wonderful, terrific, splendid, marvellous, magnificent, and tremendous, inspired, first class, exceptional, dazzling and many more accolades. I was brought to tears on several occasions during the passionate singing of “Mae hen wlad fy nhadau” the non stop singing during every game in support of the team I will never forget. The shear numbers supporting the team in each host city incredible. The welsh humour, wit, and warmth was prevalent for the whole world to see on the streets of France. The locals had nothing but respect for us everywhere we visited, and many friendships were formed with local French residents and competing nation’s supporters.

Thank you everyone for making this a wonderful experience which may take some time to sink in, and reflect the enormity of what was achieved. We would also like to thank those supporters who followed Wales for the first time hope you enjoyed it enough, that you will now become regular supporters of the Welsh National team we will make you welcome (although do not sing any rugby songs around Perry Wyn :-) )

You were the real winners, you did our country proud, you inspired a nation, you won the hearts of the world I will never forget this last 2 years

At every (shite but did the job) F1hotel we stayed at, the manager, staff and other guests always in their very bad English, wished us all the best. Said they were supporting Wales, after France.

Same thing at every Macdonalds, supermarket, petrol station and bars - all in isolated areas.

They all know now there is a country called Wales.

I haven't worked for nearly 2 months.

Financially it will take some time to get back on my feet but I wouldn't change a thing.
I think that without the support of my misses, this could have been bitter sweet but she's been great.

The long travel, ( numerous trains, planes and automobiles) huge amount of walking, huge amount of drinking
Have taken their toll on me but the pride, The friendships,
I feel and the togetherness will hopefully keep the positive momentum.

I hope City as a club and fan base become TogetherStronger as it really f*cking works!!!!

Having began to "Wales away" trips in Nurumberg for giggs debut I never thought I would see the day where we took up to 40 thousand fans to an away game.

I managed to get to every game and was very proud indeed.

My experience cultivated in me flying from Cardiff to Palma Mallorca and then onto Lyon. Unfortunately on arrival in Mallorca I was told my connection to Lyon had been cancelled due to French air traffic control. I then flew from Mallorca to Barcalona then Barcalona to Geneva and managed to get a train from Geneva to Lyon.All told a 19 hour journey!!!

I met 4 guys from Anglesey on the train journey and will stay friends with them for years to come. We shared a few beers in Geneva and on the train together.

This is what following our Great Country abroad is all about.
