Cult Wales football hero Joe Ledley has been forced to cancel his wedding as a result of the national team's remarkable surge into the Euro 2016 semi-finals.

Ledley was due to marry fiancee Ruby May Ridgeway in Ibiza on Saturday but has now had to postpone the big day.

The midfielder, whose celebratory dancing after Wales' victories has been a highlight of the past few weeks, could yet be playing in the final on Sunday night if Wales beat Portugal.

But even if they were to go out on Wednesday night, the team would not be due to return to the UK until at least Friday, leaving it too late for Ledley and his family to make the planned wedding.


Following Friday night's sensational win quarter-final over Belgium, Ruby May tweeted: "Can't quite believe what happened last night. I think I'm still in a state of shock.

"Outstanding from every single player, This is a dream."

The couple have two daughters together and are now due to reschedule the big day after the tournament has finished.

Speaking about Ledley's situation, team-mate Gareth Bale said: "He's obviously booked it a long time ago, before qualifying. These things do happen to pop up. The boys are fully focused on the task in hand and I'm sure they'll re-organise stuff."

The news comes after Chris Gunter revealed his parents will miss his brother's wedding as a result of the teams success after they opted to stay in France to watch the semi-final.

Manager Chris Coleman's wife Charlotte is due to give birth any day now, with Coleman facing the prospect of missing the new arrival as Wales' remarkable success story continues.

I should think that a second wedding will be arranged when they come back home, the family must have come to a agreement amongst themselves, which is what the majority of close families do.

yes I did go over the top makes debates more livelier now and then. The story is in WOL, with pics, he's getting married in Cancun Mexico, which logistically is a bit of a daft place to have a wedding all things considered

I read somewhere the wedding was booked earlier this year...a bit dopey for booking it during the euros

As said before, sounds like his brother is fine with it, they probably reached some compromise, but that is between them
