Will Trollope Adopt Wales Tactics?

Sat Jul 02, 2016 9:21 pm

3-5-2/5-3-2 or 3-4-2-1/5-2-2-1 however way it can go but i think our side could be made for this tactic with declan john and fabio as wing backs and manga morrison and connolly in defence. Interesting to see if he goes for it, this system works great for wales and italy can it work great for city?

We have the players for it.

---------Manga Morrison Connolly

Fabio ---------------------------------- Malone (John)

------- O'keefe Gunnarson

---------------- Ralls

------------ Immers Pilkington

A new striker and a new right back to switch Fabio to left back, short on centre backs as cover though

I like this but another curve ball would be to convert pilkington to a wing back with Freddy coming in as striker.

If we was to play 2 strikers id like 2 natural strikers played like italy and juventus play so sign matty taylor from bristol rovers he looks a good player. Then put immers in midfield

Also it begs the question. Is the welsh system Trollope's preferred system?Did he try and make Slade adopt this? Will he now bring this style to the City?I could get used to this very nicely thankyou after all the negative stuff we've been served up since DJ was sacked. And before anyone bites my head off I know we won under Malky but it was still like watching paint dry.

Christ it's lucky picking our team isn't down to our fans.

What would you go for with the players we currently have available?

Seriously hope we don't play the same system. It rarely works at Club level, where the three centrebacks are less mobile and it's rare to posesses enough pace on the break. Must be 4-2-3-1 for me .

Gk-Marshall
Cbs- Manga, Connoly and sign another one or even Peliter
LWB-John
RWB-Fabio
3 CMs- Gunnerson (Sitting), Ralls box to box and Whits play maker
2 strikers- I would like Pillks or Immers at top with a natural striker

That's true, the formation also nullifies the threat of the other team when club football the standards are round about equal. Wales is a small nation and the tactics are perfect when we have Bale & Ramsey up top!

What I said wasn't a dig at the team you picked, rather the suggestion that Pilkington should play full back.

To answer your question, I think the key to this system is to have 2 CBs either side that can play full-back and move to a back 4 when a wing-back pushes forward. Hence why it won't just be as simple as Collins stepping in for Davies on Wednesday.

With that in mind, and the fact that I think Peltier is the best natural defender we have at the club but certainly not an attacking full back, I'd go with...

Marshall
Fabio Peltier Manga Connolly John
O'Keefe Whittingham
Noone Pilkington
(whoever we sign up front)

You've got 2 options with 5 at the back. Play like Italy with 2 up front, or play like Wales with 1 up front and 2 supporting.

I've based mine on Wales' with Manga being our Williams, Whittingham our Allen, O'Keefe our Ledley and Noone and Pilkington having free roles to support like Bale and Ramsey. I would really like to get Immers in too but not sure where he'd fit.

This formation would really suit Fabio and John who are absolutely awful to say the least defensively, but better going forward. Whether it's right for us generally, I'm not sure...

I agree Scott,it is lucky that the fans don't pick the team. ;)

Hull have done with a fair bit if Success under Bruce haven't they?

I think we've got the defenders we just need some more pace in midfield and up top on the turn over.

Crazy system for us. If we want to get the best out of Immers and Pilks and also Gunnars as the deeper midfielder, we must play 4-2-3-1. Our so-called wingbacks are far too inconsistent. Hull have had the likes of Elomandy, Brady and Robertson, all of whom are a class above anything we've got. We'd have to sign two excellent wingbacks to play this.

Said for a whole I think defensively at least we have the personel to play 5/3 at the back.

John/Fabio/Malone are all natural wing backs and Manga and Connelly are both comfortable ball playing centre backs that can move to cover full back as required.

I also agree Peltier would be the best choice for a third centre back in that formation.

Personally i'do like to see it happen.
