' CCFC TO APPOINT PAUL TROLLOPE ASSISTANT/ADVISOR IN DAYS '

Cardiff City will confirm former manager Lennie Lawrence is returning to the club within the next few days, WalesOnline understands.

Aged 68, Lawrence is set to be brought back to the Welsh capital to help new Bluebirds Head Coach Paul Trollope, as Cardiff prepare for next season in the Championship.

Trollope and Lawrence worked together previously at Bristol Rovers. After departing the Bluebirds in 2005, Lawrence became Director of Football at Rovers where Trollope was to become first-team coach.

The pair worked as a two-tier managerial team and enjoyed success at the west country club, earning promotion to League One in their first full season in charge. Lawrence eventually left Rovers in May 2010 and Trollope departed just a few months after.

Strangely enough, as the two men reunite at Cardiff, their second game in charge, following the league opener at Birmingham on August 6, will be a return to Rovers a few days on in the first round of the League Cup.

We understand that Trollope, who is currently coaching with Wales at the Euros, pushed strongly for Lawrence to be brought in despite the Cardiff board not being totally convinced by the move.

But, after considering the request, owner Vincent Tan has finally agreed to the appointment of Lawrence.

It remains unclear at this point what Lawrence’s title at Cardiff will be. He could be announced as assistant manager or as a technical advisor.

Lawrence could also potentially take over the Head of Football role Russell Slade has vacated.

Are you happy to see Lennie Lawrence return?

I'm sure that he needs an experienced head by the side of him and they have worked together so there'd be no need of a 'bedding in' period so to speak.
There's also the thought that you should 'never go back'.
Fingers crossed it'll work. What's of more importance IMHO is what players are brought in.

If it's who Trollope wants, then it can only be a good thing.

If Trollope is to succeed, and the club really believe in him, then I believe he should be allowed to have as many of his own people as possible.

They obviously have a good relationship. Bristol Rovers fans say Trollope did much better when Lawrence was with him, compared to when he didn't have Lawrence.

Does help that Lennie Lawrence has been at Cardiff City before :ayatollah:

At 68 he's not exactly a spring chicken but I think he'll be happy as no2 to trollope where as Slade was not.

I see this as a positive they have been through promotion together and he knows the club and probably the best experienced no2 to have in the championship. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

So now we know who the next manager will be if Trollope loses his job.

94 year old Lennie Lawrence!
