Wed Jun 22, 2016 8:01 am

Cardiff City will face Birmingham City at Saint Andrews on the opening day of the Championship season.

The Bluebirds faced the Midlands club on the final day of last season, playing out a dull 1-1 draw in Russell Slade's last match as Cardiff manager.

The Welsh side face a tough November, travelling to both Saint James' Park and Villa Park to take on the Championship new boys Newcastle and Aston Villa.

Cardiff will be on their travels for Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and the final day of the season too, rounding off their season away to Huddersfield.

It's when looking at those first five fixtures that you're reminded of just how tough this division is. People will call it a weak league, etc, but that's bull - some of these clubs have bad seasons, but can literally turn it around the following year. So damn unpredictable.

Bring it on.

1st and final game both away - that's harsh.

Thought Barnsley away be a nice Saturday game but alas is a Tuesday night game in April, but none the less i'll be going to that as the home tie against Barnsley falls on the weekend of my Daughters birthday.

Burton away gonna be mental.

Cardiff City face a tough trip to Brentford on Boxing Day next season, and then travel to Brighton just five days later to play last year's play-off semi-finalists on New Year's Eve.

The Bluebirds play most of their crucial matches away from home, with the team on the road on the opening day and closing day of the season as well as the two away days over the festive period.

This will be the third consecutive away Boxing Day match for Cardiff, who have travelled to MK Dons and Charlton in the last two seasons.

Bluebirds face Birmingham City trip on opening day

Paul Trollope's side also face a tough November, visiting fallen Premier League giants Newcastle United and Aston Villa either side of the home match against Huddersfield Town.

Cardiff play the Terriers in the reverse fixture on the last day of the season.

The Bluebirds travel to promotion hopefuls Birmingham City on the opening day in a repeat of the final day match from the last campaign, when the two sides played out a dull 1-1 draw.

That's why this league is so interesting...it's just so unpredictable..teams at the bottom can beat the teams at the top and frequently do

Mid table again for us next year unless there are some major signings on the way!!!

Carl was right in his previous post.

Away first and last games of the season, and away Boxing Day and New Year's Eve.

That's a pain in the arse quite frankly.

At least all of the really long away trips (Newcastle, Norwich, Ipswich) are on a Saturday rather than a midweek.
