Second place is still to be decided in Group E. That will be Belgium if they avoid defeat against Sweden. Sweden themselves will take it if they beat Belgium.

Top and second in Group F will also be decided tomorrow - that's a little more complicated. Hungary will win the group if they avoid defeat, unless Iceland win by three goals. Unless that happens, the other way Iceland can win the group is if they win and Hungary lose to Portugal - but in that case the team who wins by most will win the group, with the other finishing second. Austria can't win the group, but will qualify with a win - regardless of other results.

There are still two third place teams that will qualify. Here is the current third and fourth best third-placed teams

Turkey 3pts -2GD

Sweden will overtake one if they beat Belgium, together with Republic of Ireland beating Italy and making up a gap of two in goal difference between them and Sweden. Republic of Ireland will take one if they beat Italy and Belgium avoid defeat.

Portugal will take one of the spots if they draw and Iceland avoid defeat. If Iceland draw, and Portugal beat Austria, Iceland will make it. Austria will finish in a best 3rd if they beat Iceland, and Portugal beat Hungary. Finally, Hungary will replace one of those teams if they lose to Portugal and Iceland beat Austria.

Looking at it again, I think if Italy and Belgium win tomorrow then we play Turkey.

Would rather Turkey or Albania than Northern Ireland.

By the looks of it there are now only 4 possible combinations of 3rd place teams, 3 of which result in us playing Turkey. That 1 scenario for us to play Northern Ireland requires both groups playing tomorrow having their 3rd place qualify. Basically, Republic of Ireland would need to beat Italy or Sweden beat Belgium, and even then it requires certain results from the last group. So as it stands, the likely round of 16 will see us playing Turkey

Tuesday morning it was a 1 in 15 chance that we would play NI in the last 16 so a pretty outside chance.

This morning it is down to a 1 in 4 chance. It would be a freaky set of results for us to play NI but who knows.

Italy are on about making a lot of changes, as they have already won their group and will play Spain... So its not over for Rep ireland yet
