Dad’s fury after Asda shopper posts note on car saying his England flags are RACIST

A FOOTBALL mad dad has been left shell-shocked after he was called RACIST for decorating his car in England flags for Euro 2016.

Jonny Cooke, 35, was at Asda when his England-themed silver Ford Fiesta was planted with a note under his windscreen wipers reading: ‘Pathetic Racist B******s with your England flags’.

But a vexed Jonny had only decorated the car with the England flags for his son Ben, seven, and 14-month-old daughter Laila to enjoy.

Jonny was out with fiancée Jessica, 32, and the kids when he spotted the note, which he slammed as “wrong”, “hurtful” and “unneccessarily spreading hatred”.

The 35-year-old mental health support worker said: “I was coming back to my car when I spotted a note left under my windscreen wipers.

“At first I thought someone might have scraped my car, but when I read it I was shocked.

“My son Ben was asking ‘What does it say, Daddy?’ so I just had to tell him it was someone being silly.”

Jonny attached the flags to his passenger seat windows in support of England during the Euro Championships, following the requests of his children.

He reacted by sharing the vitriolic note on Facebook to shame the mystery shopper.

In the post Jonny, of Leeds, West Yorks., wrote: “Whoever stuck this on my windscreen at the Asda at the top of Huddersfield YOU are a Disgrace!!

“How is supporting my country & having children who like flags being racist if I find out who this is I will take this further.

“I urge anyone who saw this placed on my windscreen or recognise the handwriting let me know please.”

The note was left between 2.30pm and 3.15pm on Saturday and Jonny is trying to find out who is responsible.
Jonny added: “I’m going to ask for CCTV footage from Asda – I will find out who you are.”

But fellow social media users were equally shocked by the post, with some suggesting he take the incident up with Asda and the police.

Jonny added: “I think emotions are high with the football and the EU referendum but it’s a very hurtful thing to call someone racist.

“It’s just unnecessary hatred.”

Can you not see that the way you word it again would lead most readers of your post to conclude that the murder of Jo Cox MP was motivated by the EU referendum, which you seem to link to the remain side's belief that a vote Leave and take back control of our own borders from EU freedom of movement, is somehow a racist argument. This murder was more than likely (and know one knows for sure until the facts come out), a crazed psychopathic idiot who listened to some twisted Far right ideology and the voices in his head told him he was somehow going to save mankind by murdering someone standing up for what they believe in, weather agree or disagree with her.

Yes Powys I think you misunderstood the point I was trying to make. Yes I am most certainly a Remain supporter but my thoughts on the issue had absolutely nothing to do with the politics. I was trying to explain why someone should take umbrage to a flag adorning a car during a football championship. Ordinarily it would have been of no consequence but because of the extraordinary circumstances of last week and in this particular part of the world I think the reason for the flag's appearance was misconstrued, which I happen to believe is a great pity.

As you quite rightly said, the perpetrator of the crime is quite obviously of unsound mind. He may or may not be a racist but he certainly does not appear to have been affiliated to any mainstream Leave group. I am emphatically not saying people who want Leave are racists, you have misunderstood the point. This is just a commentary on the present mindset in Yorkshire so near to a major tragedy that occurred there. In normal circumstances noone would be abused because they sported a flag.

I might well disagree with the Leave argument but please don't think I wish to disparage anyone with opposing views. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions on this issue.

If someone had been flying an Indian or Pakistani flag from their car and returned to find such a note, the Police and authorities would be falling over themselves to find the racially motivated perpetrators of a hate crime.

Yet somehow this is different?

Race laws in this country are simply not fit for purpose as they only target one race (white) and one nationality (English). If you are black and non-English then it is almost impossible to be convicted (or even accused) of racially motivated hate crimes against white or English people.

If someone had been flying an Indian or Pakistani flag from their car and returned to find such a note, the Police and authorities would be falling over themselves to find the racially motivated perpetrators of a hate crime.

Yet somehow this is different?

It should be a level playing field for all and injustice shouldnt be tolerated in any shape or form. The law should be 100% for equality and any type of inequality should be dealt with. Anything less than this is a failure in the British Judicial system and more importantly a failure in British society.

I think it is the grass roots that is most important in that attitudes need to change but the law needs to suport that. I am hopeful that attitudes will in time improve and the law will step up and bridge the gap.

Peoples race hatred is fuelled by imigration issues so perhaps rationalising those issues will go some way to curbing the problem and tackling the grass roots.Unfortunately some people will always feel the need to hate and will have a need to direct it and racial issues will be a first port of call. If its not imigration it will be terrorism or some other catalyst and unfortunately hate breeds hate.

The good news is im sure these people are in a minority and I hope there numbers will be squeezed down as time goes on.
