Leeds are said to have fought off competition from Championship rivals Cardiff and Aston Villa and French side Toulouse.

It is thought that both Cardiff and Villa had been tracking the striker, but were not prepared to pay over a million for him.

Marcus Antonsson will reportedly undergo a medical with Leeds next week

Antonsson has been linked with a move to Elland Road after impressing for Kalmar in the Swedish top flight.

The striker scored 13 goals in 18 appearances for the Scandinavian club and is said to have been the target of a £1.25million bid from the Whites.

Swedish website Fotbollskanalen claim Leeds’ pursuit of the player is almost complete and he will undergo a medical on Monday.

And Kalmar president Mattias Rosenlund has confirmed the club are in discussions with an unnamed team over a deal for Antonsson.

"We are in agreement with a club," Rosenlund said.

"He will undergo a medical on Monday to check that nothing interferes with the process.

"That is what we are waiting for at the moment."

Kalmar sporting director Thomas Andersson-Borstam has told Fotbollskanalen that Marcus Antonsson is the best player in Sweden at the moment.

According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Antonsson is close to signing for the Championship outfit Leeds United and will undergo a medical on Monday (click here to read more).

Kalmar sporting director Andersson-Borstam has suggested that the club are open to selling the striker this summer.

Andersson-Borstam, though, has made it clear that the move has to suit both the club and the player.

"It is clear that his performances have not gone unnoticed,” Andersson-Borstam told Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, as translated by The Daily Star. "He is at the top of the top scorers and is perhaps the league's best player right now.

"We are very happy if a player is performing so well that he can go on to bigger clubs. But it must match from every perspective. It has to be right for both Antonsson and Kalmar FF."

FotbollDirekt.se reported earlier this month that Aston Villa and Cardiff City were also interested in signing Antonsson in the summer transfer window (click here to read more). However, it now seems that the striker is on his way to West Yorkshire outfit Leeds.

Andersson-Borstam’s comments about Antonsson being the best player in the Swedish top flight (Allsvenskan) should be encouraging for Leeds fans.

I really hope that once the euros is over, we can get back to all things City related.

It won't be long before City play pre season friendlies; Trollop is needed back here to sort the squad out.

It would be nice to know officially whether the club were actually interested.

We was never interested in this Scandinavian spanner the likes of we see all the time on these shores and end up being a flop.
